2024 Buick Envision First Look Review: Buick To The Future

Buick is set for a busy 2024, with five updated or new models scheduled to arrive in the USA, and one of them is a facelifted Envision. The Envision plays in the exceptionally competitive compact luxury crossover segment populated by the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Lincoln Corsair. For the new model year, the Envision has received new design language inspired by the dramatic Wildcat EV. There are many changes inside the latest Envision, too, including the first implementation of Super Cruise hands-free driving technology for the brand. Whether these changes are enough to make up for the slightly underpowered engine remains to be seen.

When Is The Buick Envision Coming Out?

The release date for the Buick Envision has been set for early 2024. More details about the updated Envision will be coming out later in 2023.

2024 Buick Envision Price And Competition

At $33,400, the starting price of the 2023 Buick Envision suggests the 2024 model will begin at around $35,000 when it comes out in the USA. That MSRP will be much closer to $50k for the top trim.

German rivals like the BMW X3 are much more expensive but also more powerful, with the BMW X3 priced at a starting cost of $46,900. A more direct competitor is the Lincoln Corsair, which starts at $38,730 for the 2024 model.

New Buick Envision Exterior And Colors

The pre-facelifted Buick Corsair has a tasteful exterior design, but the automaker has decided to inject the 2024 model with more personality. Drawing inspiration from the Wildcat EV isn't a bad place to start, and although we only have one official image of the 2024 Envision to peruse, it's clearly a striking SUV. There is a new grille and front fascia, while Buick's latest emblem appears on the restyled hood.

The headlights have a more prominent slant and have been slimmed down, while the Avenir trim pictured here has several chrome embellishments that flank the grille, an obvious visual link to the Wildcat. We expect that blacked-out trim will be available once again.

The single image doesn't show us what the rear aspect looks like, but we expect changes to this end of the Envisions body, too. Wheel sizes will likely range between 18 and 20 inches, and all models will have LED headlights and available extras like a panoramic moonroof.

No colors for the 2024 Buick Envision have been confirmed yet, although the one revealed by Buick looks like it's finished in Moonstone Gray. Other 2023 colors that could carry over include Cinnabar, Ebony Twilight, Sapphire, and Rich Garnet.

Buick Envision Dimensions

Being a facelifted model, the dimensions of the Buick Envision will only be marginally altered, if at all. The 2023 version has a 109.4-inch wheelbase with a body length of 182.5 inches. Its width is 74.1 inches and the height is 64.6 inches. Depending on the drivetrain and trim, the curb weight of the 2023 model is between 3,692 and 3,932 pounds.

Buick Envision Engine And Performance

Buick did not mention an engine change for the 2024 Envision, and that's a bit disappointing. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the 2023 model produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Both front- and all-wheel drive are offered, and there is a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rivals like the Corsair make up to 250 hp, so the Buick isn't the quickest model in its segment.

We've found the powertrain in the Envision to be merely average, returning 0-60 times in around 7.3 seconds. Nothing about it is sporty, but for more leisurely motoring, this engine option is perfectly suitable. Even though paddle shifters are available, the Envision seems one of the least-suited vehicles for such a feature; it's best to leave the refined auto 'box to its own devices. The towing capacity of the Buick is 1,500 lbs.

Until Buick confirms otherwise for the new Envision SUV, we assume the old setup carries over. Still, we're hopeful that a more potent engine choice could be on the way.

Gas Mileage

Assuming the return of the 228-hp engine, the 2024 Envision's gas mileage figures are unlikely to change. Customers can expect 23/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined with FWD and 22/29/25 mpg with AWD. Less premium compact SUVs like the Honda CR-V are more economical, but the Envision isn't bad in this area.

A 15.9-gallon gas tank for FWD models equals a range of about 413 miles, while a larger 16.1-gallon gas tank in AWD versions will let you cover about 402 miles.

Buick Envision Interior And Cargo

As with the exterior, Buick has only supplied one image of the Envision's new interior. The main improvement comes via the optional Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance system - this will be the first time Buick drivers will have access to the technology. Currently, it's compatible on over 400,000 miles of roads in the USA and Canada.

Although Buick confirmed no other information, we were able to pick up a few more details from the image shared by the manufacturer. For starters, there is a stylish new steering wheel design that incorporates visual cues for the Super Cruise system. We can also spot a larger digital driver's interface. The portion of it we can see looks a lot like the Ultrawide display in the Envista, which consists of 19 diagonal inches of combined LCD screens, including an 11-inch touchscreen.

Nothing else can be deduced from the limited information currently available, although the seats in the Buick Envision will likely range from leatherette to perforated leather. Standard equipment should include climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and blind-spot monitoring. More advanced features like a head-up display and heating for the rear seats should be available again.

The cargo space in the 2023 Buick Envision measures 25.2 cubic feet behind the second row, increasing to 52.7 cubes when the rear seats are folded. These specs should stay as is for the 2024 model.
