2024 Infiniti QX80 Gets Price Bump And New Dark Chrome Appearance Package

Infiniti isn't wasting time investing too much in the current, aging QX80.

Infiniti has announced the 2024 model year pricing and changes for its flagship SUV, the QX80. Although we already have an idea of what the all-new QX80 will look like following the reveal of the QX Monograph concept at Pebble Beach recently, the current Nissan Armada twin will continue for another year at least.

The 2024 QX80 will now have a new Dark Chrome Appearance Package on the top-spec Sensory trim level. If this box is ticked, the SUV's body gains black-painted mirror caps and a Dark Chrome look for the front fascia, grille surround, fender vents, and liftgate trim. This package retails for $750, making it the most expensive upgrade for the QX80.

The QX80 is still offered in three trims for 2024: Luxe, Premium Select, and Sensory. The Luxe starts at $74,150, an increase of $1,450 over the 2023 equivalent. That's followed by the Premium Select at $78,300 and the Sensory at $85,350; these upper trims are each $1,000 pricier than they were. Adding four-wheel-drive to the Sensory costs $3,150, while doing the same to the Premium Select or Sensory costs $3,100.

As before, the QX80 comes with a trusted but thirsty 5.6-liter V8, making 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, and paired with a dated seven-speed automatic transmission. With 4WD, the QX80 can only manage 15 mpg combined. The next-gen QX80 will likely adopt a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 450 hp as gas-guzzling V8s fall out of favor.

A new appearance package can't hide the QX80's age. While extremely plush inside - the top model enjoys features like semi-aniline quilted leather and a 17-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system - the old body-on-frame platform of the big Infiniti exposes its unrefined driving dynamics. Its safety ratings can't match other full-size SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade, and the third seating row is cramped. To add insult to injury, the base QX80 is pricier than the fully loaded Nissan Armada.

The next QX80 will form part of Infiniti's plan to reveal four new models before 2027 to help bolster its flagging sales. Not long ago, one dealer for the brand hinted that the next QX80's interior will be comparable to a Mercedes-Maybach GLS in terms of luxury, including a 24-inch digital display. That's a bold claim, but the new QX80 can't come too soon.
