2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Gets Nightshade Treatment

And subtle tweaks to the rest of the range.

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid has received an injection of cool thanks to the addition of a new Nightshade Edition.

This latest offering builds on the popular blacked-out appearance trim available on the Corolla Sedan/Hatchback, Camry, and several other Toyota models. Based on the mid-spec SE trim level, the Corolla Cross Hybrid Nightshade gets black badges, door handles, rear spoiler, and 18-inch wheels for a sportier, more menacing appearance. Smoked headlights and taillights complete the darker effect.

Buyers will have a choice between Jet Black, Barcelona Red with a Jet Black roof, or Celestite Gray with a Jet Black roof. A standard roof rack offers possibilities for additional storage. Inside, the Nightshade comes with red fabric-trimmed seats with red accent stitching, a wireless charger, and a frameless HomeLink Rearview Mirror. Toyota will continue offering the 2024 Corolla Cross in S, SE, and XSE grades, though full pricing is still unavailable.

The 2023 model was already pretty affordable, starting at $27,970.

No significant changes were announced for the interior of the standard range, but Toyota says the SE and XSE trims receive an updated wireless charger. Toyota did not go into detail, but it will likely charge the average smartphone faster than before. All trims get an eight-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The S trim ships with black/gray fabric seats, the SE comes with a choice of black/gray or black/blue, while the XSE adds SofTex seats in all-black or black/blue.

Exterior color choices include Sonic Silver Metallic, Jet Black, Barcelona Red Metallic, Celestite, Blue Crush Metallic, and Wind Chill Pearl ($425).

Under the hood, there is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to two electric motors to produce 196 horsepower. Not only is that 27 hp more than the non-hybrid, but the fuel economy is significantly more impressive (42 mpg average in the hybrid versus 32 mpg in the gas-only model). An e-AWD system is standard and can help get the Corolla Cross Hybrid to 60 mph in eight seconds.

The 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid is built at Toyota's joint venture plant with Mazda in Huntsville, Alabama. Expect units to arrive at dealers this winter, and pricing should be announced closer to the on-sale date.
