2025 Genesis GV80

The GV80 was the first SUV to be introduced by Genesis over three years ago, and now it's time for its mid-life facelift, which it needs to compete against other mid-size luxury contenders like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Already one of the segment's most stylish and comfortable contenders, the facelifted GV80 - initially unveiled in Korea alongside the new GV80 Coupe - is even more of a looker than before. Inside, customers will find refined details, a widescreen interface, and the latest driver-assistance features. Genesis has stuck with two powertrain options, topped by a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 375 horsepower. But has Genesis gone far enough to improve the GV80?

Following a September 2023 reveal in Korea, we expect a debut in the USA before the end of the year. The release date for the 2025 Genesis GV80 will be sometime in 2024.

The price for the 2025 Genesis GV80 is unknown at this stage. The 2024 derivative begins at an MSRP of $57,450 for the four-cylinder model, increasing to over $80,000 for the fully loaded V6. We expect the 2025 version to be $2,000-$3,000 pricier.

There are many enticing rivals to choose from in this segment, including the BMW X5, which begins at $67,500 for the 2024 AWD model. There are V8-engined X5s that cost far more, but they're also quicker than the 2025 GV80. The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is another threat, and that begins at $62,650.

The exterior of the Genesis GV80 is every bit the debonair luxury SUV. Not too much has changed for the 2024 model year, not that it was necessary. There is a new Two-Line Crest grille; the many diamond-shaped elements now have double borders, and there are fewer of them. The distinctive Two-Line headlights continue to look edgy and modern with their Micro Lens Array technology.

Other subtle updates extend to larger air intakes, while it also comes with a wide front bumper skid plate. There is new chrome trim and updated wheel designs between 20 and 22 inches in size. At the back, we can spot some new lower bumper detailing, with the muffler tips hidden in the bumper.

In Korea, there are 12 colors for the Genesis GV80, including a new matte Storr Green. In the USA, we can expect existing colors like Alta White, Capri Blue, Vik Black, and Cardiff Green to carry over.

The dimensions of the Genesis GV80 are expected to stay more or less as is since this isn't an all-new model. The 2024 version has a length of 194.7 inches stretched over a 116.3-inch wheelbase. Its width is 77.8 inches, excluding the mirrors, and the height is 67.5 inches.

Depending on the engine choice and how it's specced, the GV80 has a curb weight of between 4,764 and 5,029 pounds. The 2025 model should be similar.

While the new GV80 Coupe has a supercharged V6 with over 400 horsepower, the engine choices in the normal Genesis GV80 are more conservative. The standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. All configurations have an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

According to previous independent tests, the GV80 V6 will manage the 0-60 mph sprint in around 5.3 seconds, while the 2.5L model does the same in just over six seconds. We've found the GV80 to be more comfortable than sporty, but that's no bad thing for a vehicle in this segment. No major changes were mentioned to its suspension settings.

Regardless of which model you go for, the maximum towing capacity is 6,000 lbs.

EPA ratings, like the engines, are likely to remain unchanged. The base 2.5L will manage 20/24/22 mpg city/highway/combined, and the 3.5L's specs are 18/23/20 mpg.

A 21.1-gallon gas tank works out to a range of between 422 and 464 miles, depending on the model.

Genesis has made one big change inside the GV80's interior. Whereas the previous model had a separate gauge cluster and center touchscreen, the new one boasts a 27-inch OLED screen that combines the two displays into a single panel. The open, clean layout is a result of the Korean concept of the Beauty of White Space, making for a distinctly clutter-free environment.

The new Genesis GV80 SUV has touch-based controls for the ventilation settings and a redesigned Shift By Wire controller with crystal-like details. There are numerous other improvements like an improved pedal design, while the visibility of your wirelessly charging phone has been improved, thanks to a new smartphone charging tray. The console cupholder is larger and there is a knob-type volume/tune button. We appreciate that Genesis has not only added a flashy new display, but also focused on improving the basic functionality of the interior.

The seats in local Genesis GV80 models will likely stick with either leather or leatherette. Three new interior colors include Earth Brown, Bordeaux Brown, and Glacier White, but these need to be confirmed for local models. Two-tone-colored steering wheels, a horn cover with the new Genesis emblem, and a center console in leather, aluminum, and real wood are other highlights.

New convenience features like a digital center mirror, a built-in camera 2 with recording capabilities, and hands-on detection for the steering wheel are all available. As for the enhanced driver-assistance suite, that includes smart cruise control 2 and a highway driving assistant. For entertaining kids in the back seat, a 14.6-inch rear-seat display and a Bang & Olufsen sound system are on the menu. Once again, we must reiterate that none of these features are guaranteed for local GV80s.

Cargo space in the Genesis GV80 starts at 34.9 cubic feet behind the second row, increasing to 84 cubes when the rear seats are folded down.
