800-Mile Spyker C8 Spyder Is A Work Of Art You Can Own

A gorgeous, yellow 2008 Spyker C8 Spyder with only 800 miles is up for auction at RM Sotheby's Arizona on January 23rd, and it will undoubtedly fetch a hefty sum.

Spyker, the Dutch carmaker that has struggled in recent years, again looks to be trying to turn things around with new investment. This will hopefully be used to get things rolling again for the company, as the company's last car, the C8 Preliator, feels like it debuted a lifetime ago and never actually went into production.

In the meantime, early C8s continue to pop up at auctions and fetch large sums from buyers. We can't blame them, though, because who doesn't enjoy a low-volume, aircraft-inspired sports car with a 400-horsepower Audi V8?

This specific is one of just 121 C8 Spyders produced, four finished in yellow over quilted black leather, and only 15 factory-equipped with a periscope rearview mirror. It sports the lovely 4.2-liter Audi V8 pushing 400 horsepower exclusively to the rear wheels courtesy of a six-speed manual Getrag transmission. This is good for a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds on the way to the car's 186-mph top speed.

On the outside, you're greeted by 19-inch, "aeroblade" alloy wheels that look to be the perfect size for the vehicle and complement the overall shape of the car very well. Speaking of the shape, the car never ceases to look elegant and modern, and design cues like the rear "cannon ports" and long swooping vented hood add to the vehicle's allure. It's a car you can't take your eyes off of, no matter the angle. The bright yellow paint certainly doesn't hurt, either.

The aeronautic inspiration is even more apparent in the cockpit. You're greeted with a flat aluminum tooled dash and chromed bezel circular gauges that look like they'd feel just as at home in the sky as they do on the ground. The gauges are also backlit in a lovely shade of green and surrounded by rows of toggle switches that mimic an airplane's instrument panel.

The current steering wheel didn't come from the factory, but the four-spoke propeller wheel was acquired from Spyker specialist Jasper den Dopper and looks right at home. Finally, to finish things off, you have the exceptional open shift gate and billet machined pedals that both have exposed linkages.

The car then comes with side-window reinforcement bars, a Spyker branded oil cap, the original steering wheel, and four dashboard vents that lead to the air conditioning system that was recently overhauled to the tune of $2,000.

An exceptional vehicle, and hopefully, it finds a good home that'd rather drive it than store it away.
