Alpine Officially Launching American Sports Car Assault In 2027

Seven new models are coming to upset the status quo.

French sports car maker Alpine, a subsidiary of Renault, has announced it is entering the American market in 2027. The news accompanied a detailed roadmap of its global future, promising seven new vehicles, a dedicated high-performance EV platform, and a revival of the iconic Alpine A310. The news follows right on the back of Ryan Reynolds acquiring a stake in the Alpine F1 team.

By 2030, Alpine wants to rake in over $8.7 billion in revenue. To achieve this goal, the French brand has established a "Dream Garage," a list of seven fully electric vehicles, with the first scheduled to launch in 2024.

"This comprehensive range of sports cars will cement our market share in our key markets in Europe and Japan. It will turbocharge our international growth, particularly in the USA and Asia, where our new models will be on sale from 2027," said Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine. "Our goal is to expand from a niche segment brand to a fully-fledged global brand."

In the US, Alpine will partner with RedBird and AutoNation to distribute the cars.

The 100% electric Dream Garage will start small, which is a refreshing change from the standard business model in the EV segment. Manufacturers tend to go large and expensive first, with more affordable models only joining the range later. Unfortunately, with Alpine's US arrival scheduled for 2027, we'll never get access to the gas-powered A110 sports car, which is currently a sublime alternative to the Porsche 718 Cayman.

Alpine will hit the electric market in 2024 with a sporty hot hatch based on the Alpine A290_ß concept car, followed by a compact crossover GT in 2025, and the all-electric A110 successor will arrive in 2026. Previewed by the A110 E-ternite prototype, Alpine showed how an electric sports car can weigh less than a 718 Cayman.

The A110 electric will ride on the in-house developed Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which will also underpin a modern four-seat interpretation of the A310 sports coupe (CarBuzz render in blue below).

Alpine is a bit hazy about the last two products, only stating that it will be two new cars in the midsize and large segments.

These are likely the all-electric SUVs Alpine has been hinting at for at least a year, which are all but guaranteed to come stateside.

Not all of the above will come to the US, as the A290 will likely be too small. Still, a dedicated sports car and the larger SUVs are a shoo-in.

Alpine will align itself with key partners to co-invent what it calls the sports car of tomorrow, including its self-branded F1 team. The Alpine Formula 1 team has been a significant driving force in getting the name out there, but the French brand wants more. That's why it will enter the 2024 World Endurance Championship as a factory team in the top Hypercar category.

"Only two years ago, Alpine was in a dead-end, lacking clear perspectives," said Luca de Meo, Renault Group CEO. "Since then, we have turned it into a fully-fledged car manufacturer, bringing together outstanding assets: a top-class engineering center, a unique manufacturing know-how, expanding distribution network."
