Best Look Yet At Electric Mini John Cooper Works

Spy Shots / 4 Comments

Naturally, it looks more aggressive than the SE, sporting the new JCW logo.

At the launch of the next-generation electric Mini Cooper Hardtop models, the automaker announced the availability of a JCW trim with a distinct front and rear design. However, Mini failed to provide images to give us an idea of what differentiates the JCW trim from the rest of the range.

Thankfully, one Mini Cooper JCW was seen completely undisguised in Bavaria, Germany, brought to light by car spotters in the area for us to have a first, albeit unofficial, look at the dressed-up variant.

The photos were taken at night, but we can still see the distinct front and rear designs that Mini talked about. The JCW trim looks more aggressive with gloss black garnishments on the front corners, while body-color kits add a wide stance to the hatchback.

The lower grille looks different, appearing to have a bigger opening as opposed to the meshed design of the SE. The panel separating the upper "grille" and lower grille also comes in gloss black. There's also the optional black stripes on the hood, but what gives this away as the JCW is the redesigned emblem just below the S badge - first officially seen in the Countryman JCW.

On the side, the Cooper JCW parallels the SE, except for the differently styled wheels that look similar to those seen in the Countryman JCW. At the rear, we're not seeing any variation on the taillight, but we'll hold our judgment without the illuminated LED graphic. What's new, however, is the more prominent bumper in gloss black, plus the sporty spoiler that also houses the new JCW logo.

No Chili Red accents are seen in the caught model, but that's optional for those getting the JCW trim. There isn't any clear photo of the interior, but we know Mini will employ JCW-specific sports seats with colored accents, also appearing on the dashboard and doors.

While we initially thought the JCW nameplate would remain an aesthetic package, we're delighted to know it won't always be the case. A full-on electric Cooper JCW will be introduced in 2025, with the gas-powered version's launch predating the battery-powered model by a year.

Interestingly, the electric Mini Cooper JCW may arrive with two motors as the platform allows, but we'll know more concrete information as we move closer to its release.
