2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock Review: Straight-Line Speed Demon

When it comes to raw, unadulterated power, few can compete with automakers in the USA. The Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock is a prime example, with its supercharged V8 engine producing a staggering 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Even the BMW M8 Coupe can't come close to competing with it, while local pony cars like the Ford Mustang need to be specced to outlandish race-car levels to match it. It's a pity the Shelby GT500 isn't around to give the Challenger SRT Super Stock a worthy opponent anymore. But aside from raw power and breakneck speeds, the Super Stock doesn't really have much else going for it, as it has been stripped down to the bare essentials so as to be more affordable than the Demon. It's still pretty pricey for what it offers, though, and people spending this kind of money might be attracted to more well-rounded options, even if it means sacrificing some grunt.

2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock Handling and Driving Impressions

The 2023 Challenger SRT Super Stock does just one thing, but it does that very well. It is ludicrously quick in a straight line, and it comes with all the necessary equipment to really enjoy that experience. You can easily spin the tires in the first three gears, but once they get warmed up, they offer incredible grip, ensuring that all the power sent to the rear axle is transferred to the road. It is worth noting that the car comes with a limited-slip differential and a Bilstein adaptive suspension, but neither of these helps much to control the vehicle when it is accelerating blisteringly quickly. If you try to take a corner at anything above a very responsible pace, you'll experience some serious understeer, and if you try to counter this by giving it some stick, you end up with armsful of oversteer. This can be extremely dangerous with drag radials. On the plus side, the four-piston Brembo brakes do a pretty good job of bringing the bucking bronco to a stop when you feel your control slipping. Six-piston brakes would be better, but they can't fit on the small 18-inch wheels. In review, the Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock is definitely a one-trick pony, but that isn't a bad thing when you consider how well it performs said trick. The addition of Line Lock, Launch Control, Power CHiller, Race Cooldown, and Torque Reserve all help to ensure this.

Verdict: Is The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock A Good Car?

It can be hard to recommend a car that is only really good at one thing, but in the case of the Challenger SRT Super Stock, we feel vindicated in just how good it is at what it does. Few cars can match its power outputs at this price, nor its straight-line sprint times. But none of this will matter to you if you aren't a fan of drag racing. It is, perhaps, the purest form of racing, or at least the most primal. The Dodge Super Stock is a no-frills racer, which has its upsides, but what we can't understand is why it isn't faster. A quick look at the Demon proves that Dodge can do better than the Super Stock, and even without starting to worry about things like handling or comfort, the Super Stock could achieve the same acceleration figures, given the chance. But, since there won't be any more Demons in the foreseeable future, the Challenger SRT Super Stock is a more than adequate runner-up.

What 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock Model Should I Buy?

There is only a single model in the range, so it's not a difficult decision, but you can at least customize it a bit and make it feel a little more personal. This includes choosing an outrageous shade of paint like Go Mango to ensure all heads turn when you go rumbling by, or upgrading the stark interior with leather seats and adding nice-to-have features that Dodge didn't bother including in the form of the Driver Convenience package. You'll want to be careful how many boxes you tick, though, as it can be all too easy to exceed the six-figure mark.
