Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Sounds Sinister With New Exhaust

Sports Cars / 3 Comments

But it isn't cheap.

With its growling 6.2-liter V8 engine, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray sounds suitably sporty. We've never had any complaints about its sublime V8 soundtrack. But if you want to make your C8 Corvette Stingray sound even more aggressive, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, one of the most prolific tuners of General Motors cars, has a solution for you.

The tuner has launched its new stainless steel exhaust system for the C8 Corvette called the Extreme-S. Jointly engineered with Corsa Performance, the stainless exhaust system is said to be "the best four-valve C8 exhaust system on the market" according to the tuner. That's a bold claim, but Lingenfelter has released a video comparison with the C8 Corvette's stock exhaust to prove it.

With the upgrade installed, the C8 Corvette Stingray sounds a lot more sinister. Despite the louder noise, the exhaust upgrade is legal in all 50 states. Matching the louder exhaust note are aggressive-looking 4.5-inch round black chrome tips that look great. The original factory four-valve design is retained for easy installation, and it correctly integrates with the factory engine control unit.

As well as improving the sound, the Extreme-S C8 Corvette Exhaust is 13 pounds lighter than the C8 Corvette Stingray's stock exhaust and increases the V8's power output by 19 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torqu.

The only downside is the price: at $3,599, this is not a cheap upgrade. At least you get a lifetime original owner warranty. If the steep price is not an issue, the Extreme-S exhaust can be integrated with a raft of upgrades Lingenfelter offers for the C8 Corvette including a carbon-fiber intake manifold that costs $2,099.98, a $99.99 lowering kit that reduces the ride height by up to 0.75 inches, and a Magnuson TVS R2650 supercharging package that boosts the output up to 705 horsepower and 667 lb-ft.
