China's New Nissan Pathfinder Looks Way Better Than Ours

Reveal / 22 Comments

Let's hope the new styling, first seen on the concept, makes its way to the US model soon.

Photos from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have revealed a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder that looks very different from the model sold in the United States. While the Pathfinder carries over mostly unchanged for 2024 (minus a few feature changes) in the US, China gets a completely different model produced locally by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture.

We don't have full specifications yet, but the production Pathfinder in China looks just like the Pathfinder Concept that was shown at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year. In fact, this Chinese-spec model looks a lot like the Infiniti QX60, which is based on the same platform as the Pathfinder.

Unlike the rugged US-spec model, the Chinese Pathfinder takes a softer, more luxurious approach. A futuristic LED daytime running light spans the width of the front end, but it loses the light-up "Pathfinder" logo from the concept. Beneath it, the grille consists of long, horizontal chrome strips that aren't too dissimilar from what's used on the Versa. Sadly, it appears the production version also loses the concept's embedded lights in the grille.

The multi-spoke wheels (likely an option on higher trims) are plucked straight from the concept and look similar to those on the Leaf, while simpler wheels are available on lower trims. The photos reveal an optional black roof and a panoramic moonroof.

No further details regarding the platform or powertrain were revealed, but we doubt this is a new architecture; it's likely the same D Platform used by the US-spec model. According to the specs, this Pathfinder is 4.3 inches longer than the one we get in the US, appealing to Chinese buyers who love roomy back seats. Since China taxes vehicles by engine displacement, this Pathfinder is unlikely to use the 3.5-liter V6 that America gets. Instead, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a turbo is the more plausible engine option.

We doubt Nissan will bring this updated Pathfinder stateside, but it does look pretty nice.
