Chrysler Has Built The 100,000th Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid

And still, there's no rival for the PHEV minivan.

Employees at the Stellantis Windsor, Ontario Assembly Plant celebrated a significant milestone this week as the 100,000th Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid rolled off the assembly line.

Though the Toyota Sienna is also a hybrid family hauler, the Pacifica is the only minivan on the market to offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The PHEV entered production in late 2016 as a 2017 model-year vehicle, not long after the Chrysler killed the Town & Country.

The well-known 3.6-liter V6 engine is paired with two electric motors, delivering 260 horsepower. Using a 16 kWh battery pack, the Pacifica PHEV can drive up to 32 miles in the electric mode, after which the gas engine kicks in to provide 520 miles total.

No other minivan boasts the ability to drive a significant distance on electric power alone.

The 100,000th unit off the line was a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Touring L model finished in Brilliant Black. This is actually the least expensive Pacifica Hybrid trim level, starting at $50,095. That number does not include the $7,500 federal tax credit, which the PHEV qualifies for.

Since it went on sale, the Pacifica Hybrid is the 3rd best-selling PHEV model and the 5th best-selling PHEV in the last decade. Stellantis also builds the best-selling PHEV in the US, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. To commemorate 100,000 units, a small gathering of employees met on the assembly line to see the milestone minivan off.

"Congratulations to the entire team at Windsor Assembly Plant on production of the 100,000th ultimate family vehicle, the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid," said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand chief executive officer. "The Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid jump-started the Chrysler brand's electrified journey, and we continue to build on this foundation to deliver the first all-electric Chrysler vehicle in 2025 and an all-electric Chrysler brand portfolio in 2028."

Chrysler has been very cagey about its future models, teasing the electric Airflow Concept but never confirming if it will enter production. For now, the American automaker seems content to have several hotly selling PHEVs in its lineup.
