E30 BMW M3 Restomod Coming From Porsche Specialists Gunther Werks

Teaser / 3 Comments

The Californian restomod experts are going back to their roots by building a Bimmer.

Porsche resto-modification specialist Gunther Werks has teased a new build based on the BMW M3, but not the current buck-toothed heifer that traditional tuners are working on. Instead, Gunther Werks will be focusing on the E30-generation M3, which is probably the most ideal candidate for such a project.

The solitary teaser image provided shows an E30 that wears aftermarket alloy wheels with a familiar logo on the center cap, which is to be expected because before Gunther Werks even existed, its founder and CEO Peter Nam created aftermarket BMW tuner Vorsteiner. The success of that company is what allowed Gunther Werks to come to life, so in a way, Gunther Werks is going back to its roots.

Absolutely no details on what to expect from the M3 build have been provided, but we'd like to think that Gunther Werks will follow a similar recipe to the one that results in its delectable 911s. The caption says that the M3 will be "remastered," which is GW's way of saying re-engineered. Thus, we can glean that this build will see the M3 get more than just some new wheels, lower suspension, a reupholstered cabin, and an ECU tune.

It's safe to assume that the car will be stripped to the shell, the chassis will be stiffened, any unnecessary weight will be cut, and the suspension will be out of this world. The cabin will surely have craftsmanship deserving of the inevitable six-figure asking price, with loads of carbon fiber, Alcantara, and high-end leather, and the body will likely be massaged to stand out from "regular" wide-body E30s.

GW will do exactly what it does with 911s, ensuring that this Bimmer's driving experience is changed only for the purposes of enhancement. It should be sharper and more responsive, but it will still feel like an M3. As a result, we doubt that the M3 will be turbocharged. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder will make more than its stock 200 horsepower (we're guessing around 300+), and it should rev higher.

Unfortunately, we don't know when to expect more information to arrive, but given everything Gunther Werks has achieved and the fastidious nature of every build it completes, the E30 M3 remastered by Gunther Werks should be worth the wait.
