Facelifted Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet Arrives At The 'Ring With Weird Tailpipes

The convertible 911 was spied running with two different exhausts.

Porsche has been visiting the Nurburgring to test the facelifted 992 generation 911. This time, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer brought out the 911 Turbo Cabriolet 992.2, with the convertible version showing up at the Green Hell with an interesting rear end.

Captured by CarSpyMedia, the vehicle ran with mismatched exhausts - one was round, and the other was a squared-off pair. The more interesting bit was the latter; it looked redesigned, with the silver tips linked. The sporty round tailpipe - offered as an option - looks the same as the current model's.

Another update is the pipes on each end that now looked farther apart. While the optional sporty exhaust changes the sound to a more aggressive tone, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet "992.2" sounded a bit tamer during its test laps at the Nurburgring.

This can be connected to the reported hybridization of the 911 nameplate. The hybrid powertrain should improve the sports car's performance by providing instant torque at low RPMs, complementing the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. After all, Porsche said the hybrid system is intended to enhance performance and not efficiency.

The addition of a hybrid system should increase the power figures of the current engine setup that makes 572 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, with the Turbo S iterations churning out 640 hp.

The latest spy video did not show the updates in the interior. However, previous sightings of the facelifted 911 GT3 suggest a fully digital instrument cluster will replace the analog tachometer - a similar update seen in the facelifted Cayenne. When asked, Porsche said going digital provides "more flexibility for the future."

Despite the weight penalty from the alleged hybrid system and convertible components, the mid-cycle refreshed 911 Turbo Cabriolet looked sharp and fast around the corners. This is a sign of improvement following a Nurburgring run in late 2021 where a hybridized 911 Turbo was all over the place.
