Facelifted Tesla Model 3 Reportedly Already In Production

If the rumors are to be believed, the facelifted model will be cheaper too.

A new report from China suggests the facelifted Tesla Model 3 (known by its codename, Highland) has already entered the pre-production phase, with the official manufacturing process kicking off next month.

JRJ.com claims customer deliveries will commence as soon as October, implying that we may see the updated Model 3 soon. The report alleges that the Model 3 will have a 66 kWh M3P battery supplied by CATL. These batteries comprise iron mixed with aluminum, magnesium, and zinc, which is said to have a greater energy density than LMFP battery cells. More importantly, the M3P battery also has a longer lifespan.

Other reports suggest that CATL will produce the batteries on behalf of Tesla, which will benefit customers significantly. A reduction in production costs will inevitably lead to decreased purchase prices.

The facelifted Tesla Model 3 is expected to have a starting price of 200,000 Yuan (approx. $27,700) in China. If the automaker introduces the same price cuts in other markets, we can expect the Model 3 to be priced even more competitively in the United States.

As a reminder, the Model 3 RWD retails from $40,240 in the USA, while the Long Range and Performance cost $47,240 and $53,240, respectively. We would be surprised if the updated EV is introduced with a sub-$30,000 starting price, as the company has already reduced pricing several times.

The Model 3 could be purchased for as little as $22,000 with various incentives and discounts. If Tesla reduces local Model 3 pricing by even $5,000, rival brands will struggle to compete with the electric sedan.

Little is known about the forthcoming facelift. Spy shots of disguised prototypes show the Model 3 will receive new styling at the front and rear, with redesigned light clusters. Earlier this year, leaked images of the alleged facelift surfaced on the internet, showing us that the compact electric sedan may don a Roadster-inspired face when it arrives later this year. However, this could not be verified, so we'll have to wait and see.

Insider information reveals the revised model will gain matrix LED headlights, interior ambient lighting, and, for the first time on a Model 3, buyers will be able to choose between a regular steering wheel or the controversial yoke. The interior will also feature more components built from sustainable materials.

The seats have also reportedly been redesigned for greater comfort, which should benefit occupants in both rows. All we know is that the super-popular Model 3 will continue to dominate the sales charts, especially with the new updates.
