Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster Revealed In Bare Carbon

Reveal / 8 Comments

Hennessey wants to play with the big boys, so it's gotta show that it can do intricate exposed carbon just as well as go fast.

Hennessey Special Vehicles has revealed its latest take on the Venom F5 hypercar called the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster, and as the name suggests, it's a drop-top version of the track-focused F5 Revolution coupe revealed at the top of 2023. But unlike the white-painted hardtop we saw in January, Hennessey has presented the windy variant in an exposed carbon fiber finish, as popularized by the likes of Pagani and Koenigsegg. Laying carbon fiber perfectly straight with aligning weave intersections is not easy, but when it's done right, it looks fantastic.

To achieve the effect, Hennessey hand-places carbon fiber in a herringbone pattern, helping to accentuate the F5's body lines. The clear coat is then "deeply polished" before contrasting painted accents are applied.

The process is nowhere near as extreme as that of the Koenigsegg Naked Carbon finish, which ultimately does without any clear coat or epoxy, but that means more buyers will get to choose the option. While only three Koenigsegg hypercars have the KNC finish, said to cost as much as $440,000, Hennessey will offer its bare carbon fiber finish in a series of five limited-edition hypercars.

"The new Venom F5 Revolution Roadster combines our track-focused hypercar with an open top for an unmatched visceral experience," said Hennessey founder and CEO John Hennessey. "This first example, a bespoke build for a special client, debuts our bare carbon finish with its meticulous handcrafted exposed carbon fiber weave."

That special client has already been revealed as NBA legend Michael Jordan.

While there will only be five Hennessey hypercars in exposed carbon, there will be 12 Venom F5 Revolution Roadsters overall, double the number of hardtop Revolution models to be produced. Each costs $3 million, and each is already spoken for. What do buyers get for that much scratch?

As with other Venom F5 models, the 6.6-liter 'Fury' twin-turbo V8 motivates the hypercar with 1,817 horsepower on tap. Larger front and rear splitters, new dive planes on the front fascia, and a large rear wing work with retuned suspension, while new wheels and a high-mounted central roof scoop round out the Revolution upgrades. The only difference over the coupe is a lightweight roof panel (18 pounds) that one person can install and remove.

The Venom F5 Revolution Roadster will make its public debut on August 18 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
