Hot Wheels is adapting its annual Legends Tour concept and taking it bigger than ever with a new TV show called Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge. Two fans compete in fully-equipped, high-tech garages to create a life-size Hot Wheels car, with the ultimate prize being their design made into an official Hot Wheels die-cast car.
The TV show will feature something called the 'Inspirationator 5000', which will give the two competitors a reference theme with different cars or could have them work on the same car with different themes. Alternatively, it could feature two car builders using the same car with the same theme as guidance.
Rutledge Wood, former host of Top Gear America, NASCAR analyst, and host of Hyperdrive on Netflix, will bring his friendly charm to the show. Scheduled to debut in primetime on NBC later this year, there should be additional streaming availability for global viewers later on.
With its $5.94 billion market value, Mattel can afford to push boundaries and create wild designs that go beyond what you usually see at Legends Tour events.
With a gameshow vibe and plenty of production money thrown at the endeavor, we expect this to be highly entertaining, particularly since we should get a new view on how these wild creations come to life.
