Lamborghini Miura Installation Shows Breathtaking Design

The Lamborghini Miura is one of the most influential Italian cars to date and a true icon. It was the first supercar and featured a road-going mid-engined design that stayed in production from 1966 and 1973. The layout has become the standard for performance supercars, but Ferruccio Lamborghini wasn't interested in the car at first with his design team designing and building it in their spare time. Not only did the Miura shine in performance, but with its looks as well. And that's what's being demonstrated at an art installation in Miami, Florida.

"A Dreamscape of Italian Design" is the title of an Art Basel art fair taking place at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami's Art Deco district. The Miura is being shown as an example of breathtaking 1960's Italian design in a celebration of art from famed Italian design leaders.

"We are proud to continue our collaboration with Lamborghini on the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach," said Cristiano Musillo, Consul General of Italy in Miami. "Lamborghini represents the perfect symbol of the beautiful and well-crafted Made in Italy, 'il Bello e il Ben Fatto italiano'. The aesthetics of an Italian high-end product like that of a super sports car derives from centuries of culture enriched by state-of-the-art technology and a perfect match between tradition and innovation."

The sculpted beauty of the Miura body was designed by Marcello Gandini, who then continued to define the supercar landscape with the Lamborghini Countach and the Diablo. Gandini also designed for Jaguar, Lancia, Citroen, and Ferrari amongst others and has his name on the very first BMW 5 Series. The Miura made his name when the rolling chassis was displayed at the 1965 Turin Auto Show, followed by the prototype P400 debuting at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. It received universal acclaim from the press and public immediately, and the essence of the Miura's design still lives on today in the modern Lamborghini models.

The Lamborghini Miura and vintage photos are currently on display at The Wolfsonian-FIU.
