2028 Lamborghini Lanzador First Look Review: Breaking New Ground

Lamborghini's commitment to an electrified range in the next year has yielded some interesting results, with the plug-in hybrid V12-powered Revuelto currently serving as the brand's halo car. It's understandable, then, that the marque's first fully electric concept is rather unique. Meet the 2028 Lamborghini Lanzador, a 2+2 Ultra GT with over 1,300 horsepower. It's still five years away from production, but if the concept is anything to go by, Lamborghini's electric future will be innovative. The Lanzador is more than just a unique concept, though, and the brand says it's a pretty solid preview of the production vehicle we'll see in 2028.

When Is The Lamborghini Lanzador Coming Out?

At this point still a concept, there's no release date for the Lamborghini Lanzador. The automaker is aiming for a 2028 launch, however, so it still has some time to make adjustments and refine the prototype for production.

2028 Lamborghini Lanzador Price and Competition

Since we're a couple of years away from seeing the new Lamborghini Lanzador ultra-GT in the USA, there's not much to go on when it comes to working out what it'll cost. But since the Lambo Urus and the Sterrato have MSRPs ranging from around $240k to upwards of $280k, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see the price of the 2028 Lamborghini Lanzador crest $300k before options and destination fees.

The Lamborghini makes the bold claim that the Lanzador is the pioneer in a new segment - since it's not solely a sports car and has the driver positioned in a higher seating point, it's neither SUV nor coupe. Lamborghini calls it an Ultra GT - the evolution of the grand turismo. And it's not just an amalgamation of body styles. Its EV powertrain makes it even more unique. As such, there aren't really any direct rivals to compare it to. We'd love to see what crops up in the next few years to measure it against.

New Lamborghini Lanzador Exterior And Colors

The new Lamborghini Lanzador looks unlike anything we've seen before, and it's suitably futuristic for something slated to arrive in 2028. Lamborghini readily admits the exterior design of the Lanzador was inspired by spaceships, but we think it looks more like a cross between a Huracan Sterrato and a Urus.

It's instantly recognizable as a Lambo thanks to the iconic 'single line silhouette,' which has been tweaked to culminate in a lifted look. The tail end, in particular, resembles a futuristic crossover. The very shallow sloping windscreen maintains the classic low-slung look, and the Lanzador is characterized by hard and taut lines that we've seen in other icons like the Murcielago and the Sesto Elemento.

The nose of the Lanzador shows off slim headlights like those seen on the Countach LPI 800-4, with the air intakes and splitter in the front fascia following the hexagonal/Y-element themes. At the rear, three-box LED taillights are understated, but the width and muscularity of the rear end are highlighted by the large flow-through rear diffuser and broad hips. Staying at the back, narrow airblades extend from the sides and from the diffuser to improve airflow.

Along the side, the large, 23-inch wheels look almost oversized. The wheels on the concept car have hexagonal elements with aeroblades for minimized turbulence. The prototype has an expansive glass tailgate and glass roof panels.

Since it's still a concept, we can't comment on exterior colors for the Lamborghini Lanzador, but the concept car was dressed in Azzurro Abissale, a bespoke paint specially designed for the reveal.

Lamborghini Lanzador Dimensions

No dimensions for the Lamborghini Lanzador have been provided, and with this being a brand-new design and something that Lamborghini says creates a whole new segment, there's nothing that can really guide us in terms of measurements. Lamborghini also states that the Lanzador "describes new proportions," and while we know it will stand around 59 inches in height, we don't have much else to go on. This height is midway between that of the Urus and the Sterrato.

If we consider that Lamborghini deems this to be a lifted grand turismo of sorts, we can assume it will have core measurements somewhere between those of the Urus and the Sterrato. This puts the total length anywhere between 178 and 202 inches and the width around 80 inches.

Curb weight is anyone's guess here, with the Lanzador's EV powertrain to take into account. The Urus weighs in at just under 5,000 pounds, and even if the Lanzador is smaller, it's not likely to be nearly as lightweight as the Sterrato's 3,241-pound dry weight.

Lamborghini Lanzador Powertrain And Performance

Very little has been shared about the 2028 Lambo Lanzador powertrain setup, but as the legendary marque's first EV, it was never going to be meek and mild. It also has the benefit of another five years of technology development before it's due to make its way to buyers.

With "one megawatt of power" from two electric motors - which translates to around 1,340 horsepower - the Lanzador will likely offer impressive 0-60 mph times, although its 'grand turismo' designation might mean it's not just a performance-oriented vehicle. An active chassis with steerable rear axle and air suspension are designed to adjust to the road surface as you drive, or can remain on your preferred setting. This can be selected as you drive by buttons on the steering wheel.

Lamborghini has provided a few more details on all the performance elements of the Lanzador, starting with the various aerodynamic bits and pieces. This includes a front air shutter and movable splitter that can be deployed to open brake cooling ducts and vanes, while the S duct at the front - and concealed louvers for wheelhouse venting - as well as the air curtain, actively improve downforce. Downforce will be adjustable, with settings that can prioritize efficiency or performance.

We don't know how much torque to expect in the Lanzador EV, but the control center for the car will work to automatically distribute torque to each axle individually. The Wheelspeed Control feature also regulates power at each corner for more precise turn-in when taking on a set of S bends.

The automaker summarizes that the Lanzador is designed to be an engaging and exciting drive, and we look forward to seeing what other tech is used to realize this mission.

Range, Charging, And Battery Life

Having a Raging Bull logo on the nose seemingly no longer suggests gas-guzzling tendencies; the Italian marque is committed to an electrified lineup by 2024, and its first-ever EV is not likely to enter the fray with mediocre range figures. We haven't been given any indication of what to expect, however, or even what kind of battery the 2028 Lanzador will have, but the magical 300-mile range remains a good target - at least for now. We'll have to see how expectations and technology change in the course of the next five years; perhaps the Lanzador will break new ground by the time it arrives.

Lamborghini Lanzador Interior And Cargo

While much of the specs are still under wraps, Lamborghini has been generous in revealing how the interior of the Lanzador should look. We say should because much of what's on the concept car will likely be adapted for the production version. Still, what we see is a roomy, beautiful, and fashionable cockpit.

Lamborghini says the Lanzador is "surprisingly spacious" inside, thanks to the packaging of EV components. This doesn't mean cramming in more occupants, though, as the Lanzador will only have seats for four. The setup is called a "2+2 lifestyle concept" by the automaker, with the rear seats and cargo space being highly adjustable to maximize practicality. From the pictures, the cargo floor is adjustable, and the dual rear perches fold away to create a loading area. There's also a frunk under the hood, which is, naturally, the perfect size for your Lambo-branded luggage.

The interior of the Lanzador is expectedly fighter-jet themed, with the Y-themed styling carrying through inserts on the seats and what appears to be backlit motifs on the center console, and the entirety of the center console 'bridge'. This unique console flows into the dashboard, creating two separate cockpits for the front occupants. The driver's seating position is significant in the Lanzador, as the carmaker wanted the pilot to sit higher than a regular sports car.

We're not averse to the design, although some of the controls may need fine-tuning to make them user-friendly. The front passenger has a dedicated digital display ahead of them and what looks like their own climate controls where the dashboard meets the door. Lamborghini also states that passengers will have retractable displays, presumably in the rear, for access to infotainment.

Interior colors and materials for the Lambo Lanzador are still up in the air, but the company has committed to using only sustainable materials, all made in Italy. This includes such elements as Merino wool, sustainably tanned leather, and recycled materials made from regenerated nylon and plastic. Additionally, a new type of carbon is added in generous lashings about the cabin - not your usual carbon fiber, however, but a regenerated, two-layer composite.
