Lotus Emeya Teaser Previews Active Aero, Confirms Name Ahead Of September 7 Debut

The E names are here to stay.

Lotus has just teased its upcoming fully electric sedan before its September 7th debut next week and finally confirmed its name: Emeya. The "Hyper GT" as the company calls it can be seen in a shadowy video with what appear to be yellow northern lights in the background. Split headlights in the same vein as the Eletre SUV spring to life through the darkness, as does a full-width taillight bar. We can see glimmers of yellow paint as lights wash over the car, and you can see the rear wing rise. Carbon ceramic brakes are evident as well.

Up until this point, we've either referred to the vehicle as the Type 133 sedan or the Envya, but Emeya is not far off. This confirms that the signature Lotus naming strategy is here to stay, with all models beginning with an L and ending with an A.

The short video starts with the words "a film for the drivers," before transitioning to quick, ethereal images of people, the car, and shadowy landscapes. It's hard to gather much from the video, but it's very apparent the company wants us to know this won't just be another quick, electric sedan but a driver's car instead. This puts the Porsche Taycan dead in its sights, and we're excited to see if the company can pull it off.

From leaked images taken last year in China, we were able to get a glimpse of what this super sedan will look like. The interior looks like a lovely space to spend some time, with sporty, plush surfaces all around. With a four-seater setup, large consoles dominate the center of the vehicle, offering plenty of storage space and access to in-car technology from both rows.

The dash is of course dominated by a massive touchscreen but it does appear that the vehicle is aiming for the minimalist, driver-focused approach the Eletre SUV debuted with.

Even though it hasn't been unveiled yet, CarBuzz was already told that the company is working on a high-performance version through the Lotus Advanced Performance division. The bespoke performance wing is sure to produce some insane vehicles for discerning, rich clients. Once it gets its ball rolling, we imagine the cash will come flooding in.

Once the Emeya is unveiled next Thursday, we predict that it should arrive in either late 2024 or early 2025 as another step in the brand's electric future.
