Lucid Air Midnight Dream Edition Reveals Luxury EV's Dark Side

Special Editions / 5 Comments

With inspiration from the Mojave Desert.

At the recently concluded IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany, Lucid revealed a new special edition based on the Air called the Midnight Dream Edition. This limited-production luxury EV has been equipped with dark polished exterior trim, 21-inch Aero Dream wheels with satin black accents, and a "darker, more enigmatic interior inspired by the nighttime Mojave Desert."

Sadly, the automaker did not supply any images of the cabin, and we weren't in the mood to fly all the way to Europe just to see what it looks like, especially since Lucid has expressly stated that this was "created with the European market in mind and will not be available in the US."

To be fair, we're not missing out on all that much. This Midnight Dream Edition has been equipped with the same Stealth package that we have had access to in the US for a few months. The Stealth finish comes from high polishing that is intended to resemble "the speculaire [mirror-like] black polishing technique employed in fine horology and jewelry," says Lucid.

Infinite Black paint on the body looks extra sinister, but if it's a bit too dark for your taste, you can also have your luxury EV's Stealth package contrast with Stellar White, Quantum Grey, Zenith Red, or Cosmos Silver options.

Lucid isn't focusing only on building highly luxurious, low-volume EVs and has announced its intentions to produce a relatively affordable EV or two by the end of this decade. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson specifically targeted Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y as future competitors. If the Air is a better take on the Model S, we're very excited to see what else Lucid can do with all its expertise and knowledge.

Besides these vehicles, the Gravity, a luxury SUV, is also in the works and should arrive within the next two months. We suspect all of these EVs will get the Stealth appearance someday, and that's no bad thing.
