Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Gets Insane Look With Rainbow Unicorn Chameleon Paint

Video / 5 Comments

The performance sedan got a paint that shifts depending on where you view it from.

Color-shifting chameleon paint schemes on cars are almost always a sight due to their uniqueness. If you ever wonder how it is done, DipYourCar on YouTube gives us a backstage look at an experimental "Rainbow Unicorn Pearl 11" paint - sprayed on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

The presenter, Fonzie, received the aforementioned paint sample in the mail. According to the sender, the jar contained 20 grams (0.705 oz) of paint, and only 5-10 grams (0.176 to 0.353 oz) are needed to make a gallon to see the effect. The sender also said the color would pop out more when applied to a black base color.

After the paint job, the Lancer Evo looked way more vibrant than ever under the chameleon paint. The glitters were not as noticeable from far as when viewing the car closer, but this also lends it a duality where, at first glance, it doesn't seem that special until the light hits it just right.

Predominantly, the colors that show up are green and blue, with hints of purple occasionally, depending on the angle of the light.

Fonzie checked out the product's official website and saw interesting details about the "Rainbow Unicorn Pearl 11" paint. The product is said to be a "UV resistant gold-green-blue holographic chameleon paint," which can be painted over any color because it is pearl.

If you are digging the look, the entry-level price of the product is $11.99 for one gram, good for 13oz of sprayable paint, while five grams is priced at $34.99 and can make 64oz. 25 grams would cost you $173.99. It is also available without the holographic effect for the same price.

There is no standard on how much you should pay to achieve a chameleon finish, as it often comes down to quality of the workmanship and the quality of the materials - some last better in sunlight while others look good at first and look horrible after a few years. A Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R owner in the Land Down Under paid the equivalent of $40,440 for a crazy color-shifting paint job on his JDM icon, using 6.3 gallons of paint to get the job done.

What do you think, would you rock this chameleon paint on your car?
