MSO Debuts Four Ultra-Limited McLaren GT Special Editions

Special Editions / 6 Comments

They take inspiration from notable McLarens of old, including the F1, P1, and Speedtail.

McLaren is introducing extremely limited special editions for the McLaren GT sport car thanks to its bespoke McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division. Exclusively for the UK market, four colors are being introduced to the vehicle in special packages, with one of the colors being an all-new hue specifically for the McLaren GT. Each edition will be limited to just two models, making them exceptionally rare right out of the gate and ensuring they'll command a hefty price.

"The GT remains a milestone car for McLaren, and GT by MSO is the perfect way to pay tribute to its position as the everyday McLaren for the UK," said Nick Crossley, UK Market Director. "Its combination of lightweight, carbon fiber supercar design and performance with versatile grand touring abilities are now celebrated in a way like never before, and exclusively for our home market."

The four colors - Cerulean Blue, XP Green, Sarigan Quartz, and Cyber Yellow - are inspired by legendary McLarens that have come before and excitement towards the future as the company celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Originally developed for the McLaren P1, Cerulean Blue is a bespoke MSO paint that features a deep blue metallic hue with pearlescent tones. It's become a popular option for MSO customers, and it will appear on the GT for the first time.

XP Green then pays homage to the McLaren F1. A dark green metallic, the color was created to match the shade that appeared on the iconic F1 XP GT 'Longtail' prototype that evolved into the Le Mans-winning F1 GTR.

The next color is a more recent vintage but pays tribute to a vehicle as impressive. Sarigan Quartz comes from the color of the Speedtail XP2, which was the prototype that rocketed past 250 mph more than 30 times at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to prove the Speedtail's exhilarating performance.

The final color is then something entirely new, developed by MSO specifically for this project. Cyber Yellow is an evolution of the brand's Volcano Yellow paint with an alternative pearlescent coat. It apparently features silver and white tones in a certain light and is guaranteed to be a showstopper on a bright summer day.

Whichever color you choose, you get a few more features along with it to distinguish your purchase. On the inside, diamond-pattern quilted stitching in the body color appears on the backrest and seat base, with the MSO logo on the headrest. The armrest and keyfob feature a Union Jack as a special homage to the UK-only special edition.

On the exterior, all models will come with the MSO Black Pack as standard, which gives you gloss black side view mirror covers, window surrounds, exhaust tips, 10 twin-spoke forged alloy wheels, and roof. Your brake calipers will be finished to match your body color.

The McLaren GT is a spectacularly livable supercar, something you can drive every day and not get tired of. With these special editions, the company has added just enough style without messing up the vehicle's winning formula, and we applaud Woking for it. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but we imagine the exclusivity will bump up the vehicle's $200,000 price tag significantly.
