Nissan's ICE-Powered Sedans Are Getting Axed In A Few Years

The US sedan market could once again shrink following reports that Nissan will discontinue the Altima and Versa, joining other brands that favor crossovers/SUVs over the low-slung, three-box models. The Japanese automaker's entry into the full-size sedan segment, the Maxima, has also been confirmed to make its way out soon.

According to a future product timeline from Automotive News, the two sedans won't be part of Nissan's lineup after 2025. Only the Sentra would continue championing the brand's sedan range, which will be redesigned in 2026, per the said timeline.

Of note, the Altima was Nissan's second best-selling model last year, while the Versa currently stands as North America's most affordable brand-new car.

Some brands that stay in the mass-market sedan category are Honda with the Civic and Accord, and Toyota with the Corolla and Camry. Hyundai also recently updated its sedan portfolio with the simultaneous launch of the facelifted Elantra and the heavily redesigned Sonata.

However, we could still get Nissan-badged sedans, albeit through electrification. According to Automotive News' timeline, an electric sedan is due to arrive in 2026.

Under the revised Nissan Ambition 2030, the automaker will release 27 electrified models, including 19 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), globally in the next seven years.

Nissan remains mum about the details of its upcoming electrified models. But the company said two will be assembled locally at the Canton plant in Mississippi in 2025 - one will wear a Nissan badge, and the other will be under Infiniti.

Apart from the Maxima, the Nissan Titan is confirmed to leave the lineup due to poor sales. The full-size pickup truck's production is slated to end in the summer of 2024.

With all these rumors and confirmed discontinuation plans in mind, it seems Nissan is rejuvenating its lineup to make room for electrification. While we await the latest on the Altima and Versa, they are still on sale with a starting price of $25,730 and $15,980, respectively.
