Official: 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R Now Has MORE Power Than Ram TRX

Too bad the Ram TRX won't be around long to see it.

Ford has dropped a bomb for the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R because the off-road super-truck is finally getting more power than its closest rival, the Ram 1500 TRX. In the press materials for the 2024 F-150 facelift, Ford made no claims about the Raptor R's powertrain, so the fair assumption was that it would remain unchanged from the 700 horsepower it made before. But at the reveal event ahead of the Detroit Auto Show, Ford confirmed that the new Raptor R will have over 700 hp.

Ford's Vice President of Sales, Distribution, and Trucks, Andrew Frick, dropped the bomb, claiming, "The new F-150 Raptor R is not only our most powerful and off-road capable Raptor ever, it's targeted to be the most powerful full-size off-road truck ever."

Just last year, Ford famously came out and said that it didn't care that the Raptor R was short on power against the Ram 1500 TRX. It may have only been down by 2 hp and 10 lb-ft of torque, but the Raptor R was several hundred pounds lighter, and it seems the lure of bragging rights may have been too strong to ignore. Deep down, you just knew the company wasn't happy playing second fiddle. Being able to grab headlines is a big part of selling a vehicle like this, and now it appears the company is aiming to do just that.

Now the phrase "targeted to be the most powerful" is pretty loaded. Perhaps it means the company made some slight modifications that make it more powerful on paper or maybe it's still finalizing what the changes should be. Right now all we can do is wait to see what the company announces officially, but no matter what it says, we do know it's going to have a lot less competition when the truck finally hits dealerships.

Its only ICE-powered competitor, the Ram TRX, is on its way out at the end of 2023 thanks to Stellantis discontinuing the 6.2-liter supercharged V8. The company is shifting towards electrification like so many others, and the all-electric Ram 1500 REV will take its place. This means the Raptor R will exist all by itself at the top, and thanks to all its upgrades, what a high it will be.

New Fox Dual Live shocks and continuously variable rebound controls are sure to help the trucks ride on and off-road immensely, and a new modular bumper available with the 37-inch tires will make the behemoth more practical and imposing. Baja Mode will now display all the off-road info you need on your heads-up display too.

There's so much more to come, and we can't wait until all of the specs of the truck are fully unveiled.
