One-Of-A-Kind 1956 Ferrari Superamerica "Superfast 1" Headlines Quail Winners

Concours d'Elegance / 4 Comments

These are the finest classics from this year's edition of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

The festivities from The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering have come to an end, and the best classic car of this year's extravaganza has been crowned: a 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica "Superfast 1." Chassis 0483SA is owned by Anne Brockinton Lee and has just been completed following a multi-year restoration, looking as good as it did when it was first produced.

What makes this car particularly special is that it is the only 410 Superamerica fitted with a 4.0-liter Lampredi V12 engine. This engine boasts twin ignition and 24 spark plugs and is said to have been used in the development of the long-distance racing Ferrari 410 Sports. In addition, the Best of Show winner is one of only four uniquely-bodied 410 Superamerica models and the only 410 Superamerica prototype from Pininfarina.

But this wasn't the only attraction from a week of wonderful cars.

Winning the Spirit of The Quail award was a 1949 Lancia Aprilia Supergioiello, while a 1962 Lancia Appia Convertible Vignale won the Hagerty Drivers Foundation & Preservation Award presented by Magneto. The Art of Bespoke Award was won by a 1953 Delahaye 135MS CL Speciale Faget-Varnet.

The ArtCenter College of Design winner was a 1973 Cooper Sport Pack Rover, and the best of the Porsche 959s was a 1992 SC model owned by Bruce Canepa, one of the men who helped make the car eligible for US import. The 50th Anniversary of the 1973 RS Carrera exhibit leaves no surprises as to what car would win its award, with a 2.7 RS Lightweight model taking home top honors.

A 1967 Bizzarrini Strada 5300 and a 1952 Bentley R-Type Continental Prototype were also formally recognized at the event.

Other classic vehicles that scooped up awards included a 1938 Jaguar SS100, a 1957 Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS Zagato "Double Bubble," a 1969 Iso Grifo 7 Litre, a 1955 Indy Streamliner, a modern 2022 Bugatti Centodieci (winner of the Evolution of the Supercar award), a 1958 Ferrari 250 Pontoon Testa Rossa, a 1991 Yamaha YZ500 (winning the Sports and Racing Motorcycles category), and a 1993 Porsche 911 Baja. Finally, a 1956 Chevrolet Corvette Special won the Custom Coachwork award.

We suspect that this last award may someday be won by the Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail, an exercise in bespoke customization that will only be repeated on three other Droptail models.
