Porsche Mission X Concept Is Coming To America

Concept / 5 Comments

The all-electric hypercar concept is arriving stateside in a few months.

Revealed globally to celebrate Porsche's 75th anniversary, the Mission X concept is finally coming to America in the metal. It will be among the sights to see at the Rennsport Reunion 7, a gathering of Porsche race cars and drivers from September 28 to October 1 at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

Aside from the Mission X's arrival, the event will also name the winners of the 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, which features three categories and is participated by over 60 Porsche dealerships. Porsche Club of North America will serve as the judges tasked with looking at the finished product and other details such as documentation and marketing exploits.

"Rennsport is the perfect location to mark the first US visit by one of the most exciting cars of the year - allowing our customers and fans to see it up close for the first time," said Porsche Cars North America Executive Vice President and COO Joe Lawrence. "At the largest Porsche gathering worldwide, we are not just celebrating our rich Motorsport history and those who shaped it, but also look forward to an exciting future."

The Mission X all-electric concept is inspired by iconic Porsche hypercars such as the 959, the Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder - the latter it shares dimensions with. The concept is meant to show a collection of ideas, previewing the design direction of future Porsche hypercars and representing the "pinnacle of performance" and "modern sporting luxury."

The Mission X will enter production, and when it does, Porsche wants it to be the fastest road-legal car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. To achieve this, it will have a perfect 1:1 power-to-weight ratio of metric horsepower per kilogram, or just under one horsepower per 2.2 lbs. However, Porsche hasn't said how much it will weigh or how much power it will produce.

Porsche has also yet to share the exact debut date of the production-spec Mission X. A report earlier this year stated that the German carmaker could introduce an electrified hypercar to succeed the 918 Spyder in at least five to six years.
