Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Looks Ready To Unleash 1,000-HP Of Electric Fury

Spy Shots / 10 Comments

Spied at the Nurburgring, you're looking at the most hardcore Taycan to date.

A camouflage-free version of a hotter Porsche Taycan Turbo has been spotted at the Nurburgring, indicating that Porsche is again set to raise the bar for electric sedans. Expected to be called the Taycan Turbo GT, the black prototype sported several visual changes over the normal Taycan, including a large wing.

It's been almost a year since this more hardcore Taycan was spied initially, and like that one, the new spy shots show off Recaro sports seats in front - with the Recaro name visible on the backrests - and a roll cage.

This time, there is no camo covering the front bumper, giving us a clearer look at the styling changes. Unlike the previous sighting, this Taycan has different wheels and black brake calipers instead of yellow ones.

The Taycan Turbo GT sports redesigned headlights without the obvious indentation the current Taycan Turbo has between the hood and the inner section of the headlights. The front bumper is also restyled and the left charging port is gone, possibly in an attempt to save some weight. Besides the wing and some new cut-outs in the bumper, the rear design is similar to what we're used to.

More exciting than the styling changes will be the performance of this Taycan. It's been suggested that the electric motors will produce over 1,000 horsepower, a healthy increase over the current 750 hp made by the Taycan Turbo S. Even with "only" 750 hp, this Taycan can already hit 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.

This power hike would possibly close the performance gap between the top Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid, which already makes over 1,000 horses. However, the aerodynamic changes suggest that Porsche is chasing ultra-quick lap times, not just straight-line dominance.

Earlier this year, the Model S Plaid managed a record Nurburgring lap time of 7:25.231 minutes, beating the Taycan Turbo S' previous record. Porsche will want to take back its crown as soon as possible, and the Taycan Turbo GT would be the perfect car for the job.

Like the wickedly quick Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe, the Taycan Turbo GT will likely receive a retuned and lowered suspension, different tires, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Considering that the camo has been removed, we expect the official reveal of the Taycan Turbo GT - if that's what it's called - to happen soon.
