Porsche Will Reunite Life-Size Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen

Attendees of Rennsport Reunion 7 will have a chance to see two special vehicles from Disney and Pixar's Cars.

From September 28 to October 1, fans can get up close and personal with full-size versions of Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. As a reminder, Lightning McQueen is a race car voiced by Owen Wilson, who falls in love with Sally Carrera, a Porsche 911 Carrera voiced by Bonnie Hunt.

"You can't have a celebration of motorsport and Porsche without Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera," says Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios. "The life-size cars were created back in 2006 for the premiere of the original Cars movie. Sally was made from a real 996-generation 911 and actually runs and drives."

"Sally and Lightning often traveled together to celebrate key moments, and they got to see a lot of the world as new Cars movies were launched," he added. "In the past decade, though, they've been on display far apart, and even on different continents - it's wonderful that they're being reunited at Rennsport after so many years."

Since Sally is a Porsche, she was kept at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Lightning McQueen is kept at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, just a short distance from where Rennsport Reunion 7 will take place.

Cars production designer Bob Pauley, who originally designed Sally, will also attend the reunion.

Joining the two movie promotion cars will be the one-off 911 Sally Special, designed by Porsche to pay homage to the 996-based car using a new 992 Carrera GTS. The car sold at an auction last year for a whopping $3.6 million, with the proceeds going to Girls Inc. and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Other highlights at Rennsport Reunion 7 include the 911 GT3 with Manthey Racing parts and several restored vehicles from Porsche dealerships nationwide as part of the Classic Restoration Challenge.

Three vehicles will be crowned the winners in the Restoration, Preservation, and newly added Individualization classes.
