If the CLS proves that Mercedes can successfully invent their own segment, the R proves that this is not always a flawless system. It seems to be mostly minivan, but since the image-conscious shun such vehicles, there is just enough crossover thrown in that you lose the practicality of sliding doors, but not the dorky minivan proportions. As absurd as it might be, if what you’re in the market for is a genuinely luxurious minivan, this is it. Sure, the Chrysler Town & Country might be more practical, but the R simply does luxury better that any competitors.
