Ram 1500 TRX Embarrasses Ford F-150 Raptor R In A Game Of Tug Of War

If you're in the market for the Ram 1500 TRX and Ford F-150 Raptor R for your next high-performance pickup truck, you're up for a treat. Race car driver Cleetus McFarland brought the two trucks to test which is better in a drag race and a game of tug-of-war.

But first, let's see how the two fare against each other on paper. The Ford F-150 Raptor R is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged Coyote V8, making 700 horsepower. The Ram 1500 TRX tops its rival with 702 horsepower from a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8. Both are more than respectable, but only one will come out at the top as far as these comparisons are concerned.

For the tug-of-war segment, it seemed the Raptor R didn't even fight, as the TRX easily won all rounds. This type of test requires a good amount of torque (and grip), and the TRX's class-leading 650 lb-ft of torque pulled the life out of the Raptor R.

The F-150 may be several hundred pounds lighter than the 1500, but weight doesn't matter as much on standstill pulls. Where it would matter more is on a quarter-mile drag strip, which happens to be the next part of the battle.

The Raptor R finished ahead of the TRX with a 12.5-second time at 108 mph, with the latter finishing in 15.5 seconds at 88 mph.

To make the drag race closer, the Raptor R gave the TRX the hit for the second go. It worked out for the Ram truck, evening it out at 1-1. But the final race saw the Ford truck winning at 2-1 in 12.5 seconds at 108 mph (TRX did a 12.6-second run at 106 mph).

Based on what we just saw, the Ram 1500 TRX is more powerful than the Ford F-150 Raptor R, but the latter proves torque is not everything by going faster on the drag strip.

This is probably one of the final battles we'll see between these two behemoths, as Stellantis will end the production of the 1500 TRX at the end of this year. Meanwhile, the F-150 Raptor R will continue and is bound to be even stronger as the 2024 model year is confirmed to make over 700 hp.
