Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition Says Goodbye To The Super Truck

Special Editions / 16 Comments

Like a T-Rex, the TRX will soon be gone.

It's almost time to wave goodbye to the Ram 1500 TRX. Ram's parent company, Stellantis, has confirmed that 2024 will be the final model year for the TRX, with production coming to a halt at the end of 2023.

Unlike the actual Tyrannosaurus Rex, it didn't take an asteroid impact to kill the TRX. The gas-guzzling supertruck is being killed by a shift toward electrification. The upcoming Ram REV will take its place with 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, and an estimated range of 500 miles with an extender.

Ram will send off its "apex predator" with a Final Edition, available in one of eight colors. Three of those colors - Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue, and Harvest Sunrise - are exclusive to the Final Edition.

Other details on this special edition include Satin Titanium bead-lock capable wheels, patina stitching on the dashboard and seats, a Final Edition cluster splash screen, a Satin Titanium dash badge, triaxle-suede door inserts, and a center console badge with the build number.

Ram will build 4,000 TRX units total for the 2024 model year, including these Final Editions.

Under the hood, the TRX will be among the last vehicles to use the 6.2-liter supercharged V8, producing 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Once the special edition Last Call Dodge Charger and Challenger models end production, the supercharged Hemi engine will be no more. That screaming engine could rocket the TRX up to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 118 mph, completing the quarter-mile in just 12.9 seconds at 108 mph.

Such performance was previously unheard of for a pickup, but we've already seen electric trucks like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and Rivian R1 outclass the dinosaur juice-burning TRX.

The TRX Final Edition will be available in the fourth quarter of 2023, starting at $117,625 (not including a $1,995 destination charge). Pricing for the standard 2024 TRX will reportedly start at $97,500, but the Final Edition gets optional equipment such as carbon fiber trim, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and plenty of safety technology.

With the Ram 1500 TRX bowing out, the Ford F-150 Raptor R will have the supercharged truck market all to itself. GM has already embraced electrification with the Hummer EV, Ford has an electric version of its popular F-150, and Ram won't be far behind.
