2024 Lamborghini Revuelto First Look Review: A Raging Bull Of Firsts

If the extremely exclusive Sian was Lamborghini giving us a taste of its electrified future, the Revuelto - a name that CarBuzz discovered as a trademark a year ago - is the full buffet. Codenamed LB744 and effectively replacing the Aventador Ultimae, the Revuelto is finally here.

Whereas the Sian came with supercapacitor technology that saved weight but added tremendously to its price, the Revuelto uses a more conventional lithium-ion battery to create Lamborghini's first HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). With a new V12 and three electric motors, the Revuelto makes over 1,000 horsepower combined, edging even the magnificent Ferrari SF90 Stradale in that respect. Traditional Lamborghini traits like the scissor doors, elaborate styling, and high-revving V12 live alongside new facets to the Italian marque's mid-engined supercar formula, like an electric driving mode and a front structure made entirely from carbon fiber. It pushes the envelope in every sense, yet it appears that the Lambo DNA remains firmly intact.

When Is The Lamborghini Revuelto Coming Out?

The release date for the Lamborghini Revuelto is expected to be later in 2023 as a 2024 model, following its reveal in March 2023.

2024 Lamborghini Revuelto Price And Competition

As a groundbreaking hybrid replacement for Lamborghini's premier supercar, the Aventador, the price of the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto coupe is likely to be, well, revolting for anyone outside the top 1%. We don't know what the official MSRP is just yet, but considering that the Aventador Ultimae started at a cost of just under $500,000 in the USA, it would not be a shock if the Revuelto got close to $600k.

As for the Lambo's rivals, Ferrari already has a high-powered hybrid supercar in the form of the SF90 Stradale. It also has three electric motors but a twin-turbo V8 instead of the Lambo's V12. Although the SF90 Stradale just about falls short of the magic 1,000-hp mark, it matches the Lambo up to 62 mph. If you want to save somewhere in the region of $200,000 and are vehemently against electrification in cars of this stature, the Aston Martin DBS V12 is a more old-school alternative, but will be blown away by the Italian hybrid twins.

New Lamborghini Revuelto Exterior And Colors

Lamborghini's head of design says that "the Revuelto is adrenaline made visible," and that is an apt description of this visual masterpiece. The shape is perhaps too busy to be called beautiful in the way the SF90 Stradale can, but the exterior design of the Lamborghini Revuelto is more challenging and arresting than that of its main rival. In this segment, that counts.

Lamborghini describes the design language as introducing a new Space Race, whereby the traditional mid-engined supercar body has adapted to the requirements of electrification.

Although clearly a modern Lamborghini, the design draws inspiration from numerous V12 legends in the marque's lineage. The proportions based on a single longitudinal line echo those of the 1971 Countach prototype, there are touches of the Diablo, and the inclined front harks back to the Murcielago. The Y-shaped daytime running lights in front have more in common with the Sian than the Aventador, and the carbon-fiber hood is pointier than on the Aventador.

There are several aerospace elements that have been implemented, including the blades in front that link the splitter directly to the hood. Behind the front wheel arches are fins that guide airflow along the sides of the Revuelto. A floating blade on the rear fender is a striking touch, and even the door handles have been aerodynamically designed with their Y-section wing profile. This diverts air from the hood to the the fins on the side, and thereby towards the radiator.

20-inch wheels in front are complemented by 21s at the back, and these are wrapped in bespoke Potenza Sport premium high-performance tires from Bridgestone. With run-flat capability, the car can still be driven after a puncture for around 50 miles at a speed of 50 mph. Bridgestone Potenza Race tires will be available speicifically for track use, and custom Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 tires can be equipped for winter use. The vertically-opening scissor doors are a Lamborghini staple and look as spectacular as ever when opened.

As you make your way to the rear of the car, things only get more exciting. The V12 is fully exposed like the work of art that it is, and it leads to the twin hexagonal-shaped tailpipes. These are positioned between the taillights with a Y shape that mirrors the front DRLs. Lower down is an enormous diffuser which extracts airflow from the underbody. Four rear vortex generators, fins on either side of the front bumper, and NACA ducts in the front of the rear wheels are all tasked with optimally managing airflow.

Overall, Lamborghini has been able to boost the aerodynamic load by 33% in front and 74% at the back compared to the Aventador Ultimae.

Customers will be able to choose from 400 bodywork colors for the Lamborghini Revuelto, including the fiery orange seen here. We also anticipate unique liveries, brake caliper colors, wheel finishes, and more being on the menu, so two identically configured Revueltos coming out of the factory will be highly unlikely.

Lamborghini Revuelto Dimensions

The final specs and dimensions of the new Lamborghini Revuelto coupe have not yet been published, but accommodating the electric components may have increased its overall size. Lambo says that a new roof design affords just over an inch of additional rear headroom, so the car could be marginally taller than the Aventador Ultimae's height of 44.7 inches. The Ultimae has a length of 191.7 inches and a width of 89.5 inches, so we could see slight increases in both of these, too.

Lamborghini has not specified how much the Revuelto weighs, although it does officially have the best weight-to-power ratio in the company's history at 1.75 kg/CV (metric weight to horsepower). The car produces 1,015 CV, so a rough calculation tells us that it'll weigh around 3,916 lbs. The Ultimae has a dry weight of 3,417 lbs, so the new car is clearly heavier. However, key Revuelto components are lighter, such as its 10% lighter monofuselage compared to the Aventador's chassis and the 20% lighter front frame. This is, in fact, the first super sports car that has a front structure made from 100% carbon fiber.

Overall, although heavier than before, Lamborghini has shed pounds in key areas while adding significant power, so all signs point to the Revuelto being a magnificent drive.

Lamborghini Revuelto Engine And Performance

There is much to cover here, so bear with us. This car represents such a fundamental breakaway from Lamborghini supercar tradition that the automaker has conjured up a new acronym for it, namely HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle) - the first of its kind.

Before taking into account the electrification, the engine in the Lamborghini Revuelto plug-in hybrid sounds reassuringly familiar. Mounted longitudinally and midship, the 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 codenamed L545 is a marvel on its own. It's the most powerful and lightest 12-cylinder engine ever from Lamborghini, weighing over 37 lbs less than the Aventador Ultimae's mill while being more powerful. The V12 delivers 814 hp at a scorching 9,250 rpm, but you can further extend it to 9,500 rpm. Peak torque is 535 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm. Four-wheel drive is also retained, but this is where tradition begins and ends for this car's deeply complex powertrain.

Whereas the Aventador Ultimae's V12 was solely responsible for directing power to all four wheels, the L545 only powers the rear wheels. Two new electric motors have been added to the front axle in the Revuelto, each powering a front wheel. But there is also a third electric motor, this one nestled above the new eight-speed double-clutch automatic transmission. Based on the driving mode and conditions, this third motor will add more power to the rear wheels in concert with the V12.

The transmission replaces the sometimes unrefined single-clutch seven-speed unit used previously, but its placement also marks a radical departure: the eight-speeder is located transversally behind the V12 engine, as this frees up space for the lithium-ion battery that provides energy to the electric motors. This layout also keeps the wheelbase relatively compact and aids the overall weight distribution. You have to go all the way back to the Miura in 1966 and the Essenza SCV12 to find the only other Lamborghini V12 models that had a rear transverse gearbox.

The rear-mounted motor functions as a starter motor and generator too, and produces 148 hp and 111 lb-ft on its own. As for the oil-cooled axial flux motors in front, they each make 148 hp. Combined, the new Revuelto generates an obscene 1,001 hp, while another 258 lb-ft is added from each front electric motor.

With more power sources than a trio of Ultimaes, the Revuelto delivers knockout acceleration. The 0-62 mph time is 2.5 seconds (three-tenths quicker than the Ultimae despite the extra weight), and 0-124 mph takes under seven seconds (8.7 for the Ultimae). Lamborghini claims a top speed of over 217 mph.

The manner in which all of this comes together is quite remarkable. The front motors are capable of electric torque vectoring (another first for Lamborghini), and when in its purely electric mode, the Revuelto becomes something alien to Lambo supercars: silent, and front-wheel drive. When required in this mode, the third electric motor will lend a helping hand and occasionally direct power to the rear wheels. The two front motors also provide reversing, but if more traction is needed when going backwards, the rear electric motor will once again kick in.

To meet the new powertrain's demands, the eight-speed transmission uses a wet double clutch, and the new eighth ratio optimizes efficiency and drivability when on the highway. A continuous downshifting feature can drop down multiple gears when braking using the left paddle.

Because of the unique layout and multiple electric motors, Lamborghini says that the car has up to 13 different driving experiences. Citta is the most efficient mode, with power limited to just 180 horses, and Corsa is the most extreme mode that unleashes the full 1,001 hp. The rear wing can also be positioned according to the driving mode or can be set manually. It can aid with creating minimum resistance in electric mode for economy, or provide more stability at high speeds in low drag position, for example.

But to ensure that it also corners with the precision expected of it, the car has four-wheel steering, stiffer anti-roll bars, and a 4% larger front footprint (compared to the Ultimae). Stoppers are Carbon Ceramic Brakes Plys with ten-piston front calipers and four-piston calipers at the back, along with larger brake discs than on the Ultimae.

Gas Mileage

The all-electric driving range and official MPGe ratings of the Revuelto are unknown, but it should be capable of more efficient driving than the Ultimae when treated gently. When used in anger, we don't foresee it being much more efficient than the older Aventador's 11 mpg combined. What is important is that carbon emissions are down by 30% relative to the Aventador Ultimae.

The battery has a 3.8-kWh capacity, and both ordinary domestic alternating and charging column current at up to 7 kW can be used to replenish it. This battery can be recharged fully in 30 minutes, or via regenerative braking from the front wheels or directly from the gas engine in just six minutes.

Lamborghini Revuelto Interior And Cargo

Sporting supercar style meets much-improved technology in the Lamborghini Revuelto's interior. The "Y" theme of the exterior lighting has been repeated inside, and it was Lamborghini's goal to make the driver feel like a pilot.

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) has expanded and now consists of three displays: an 8.4-inch central display, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and another 9.1-inch display placed ahead of the passenger. A new "swipe" function allows both the driver and co-pilot to move applications from one screen to the other as one would when using a smartphone. The navigation system has been comprehensively redesigned, there is Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM 360L takes over from the older SiriusXM, and the car supports over-the-air updates.

The new steering wheel was inspired by the Essenza SCV12 and the racing world, with rotors on the spokes containing various controls like the driving modes and the lifting system. Another first is the complete Advanced Driver Assistance System with active lane departure warning, lane change warning with blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

All the sporty bits are one thing, but Lamborghini has also sought to make this a more practical, comfortable supercar. A storage compartment between the Lamborghini Revuelto's seats has been included, and there is a cupholder installed in the dashboard on the passenger side. Occupants have about an inch more headroom and 3.3 inches of extra legroom. As for the cargo space in the Lamborghini Revuelto, we don't have official specs but the frunk can accommodate two hand luggage-sized bags.

Another new focus for Lamborghini is on sustainability, with new machinery for crafting the interior materials helping to reduce waste. Visible carbon fiber and leather are combined with a new ultralight fabric called Corsa-Tex in Dinamic microfiber, and the latter is made from recycled polyester by way of a water-based production process. There are 70 interior color options available.
