Cadillac Working On Two Special New Sedans

Rumor / 8 Comments

Reports say that they will be similar in size to CT5 and CT6.

While SUVs and crossovers are all the rage nowadays, some carmakers still keep a selection of four-door sedans in their arsenals. One of those brands is Cadillac, with the CT4, CT5, and CT6 forming the basis of its sedan lineup, while the ultra-luxury Celestiq has taken over the mantle as a halo EV. But a new report suggests the electric sedan side of Cadillac's garage will grow, with two new electric sedans in development.

Citing unnamed sources, the report says the American carmaker is currently developing two new sedans of approximately the same size as the CT5 and CT6. Importantly, these won't just be models for China, either. Instead, they will be global models, meaning America could get them too.

The report says these sedans will have a low hip-point (H-point) design, contrasting with the "regular H-point" style of crossovers like the Cadillac Lyriq. Additionally, the supposed sedans won't be in the guise of an old traditional three-box sedan per se.

Instead, they will assume a fastback profile, much like the Celestiq. This provides optimization for interior space and a low-slung look. Like many of the brand's new cars, these two will be fully electric and likely use the brand's Ultium Drive Motors and Ultium batteries.

Those characteristics coincide with what GM President Mark Reuss said back in 2022. He shared that an Ultium-based sedan is being made, and it will have a dramatic low roof and sedan-like proportions. The caveat is that he was talking about a Chevrolet Malibu replacement for China (likely based on the FNR-XE concept) and not a Cadillac product for the US market.

So alternatively, the two rumored sedans might end up using the American manufacturer's BEV Prime platform, the more premium version of the BEV3 platform already used by the Chevy Blazer EV and the Equinox EV. This is also the same platform that might underpin the rumored Chevy Corvette sedan, which will likely come out in 2025.

This report on so-called forthcoming sedans from GM remains unsubstantiated and is more of a rumor. As such, do take it with a healthy grain of salt - or take the whole tub even. Still, we know GM is planning an electric onslaught and Cadillac will expand its EV lineup beyond just the Celestiq, Lyriq, and new Escalade IQ.
