Dodge Charger SRT Daytona EV May Have Combustion-Powered Sibling

Rumor / 12 Comments

Here's what we can expect from Dodge's next generation of muscle cars.

The Charger SRT Daytona, Dodge's all-electric muscle car concept, will reportedly receive a panoramic glass sunroof, among other things, when it enters production.

Citing sources close to the SRT Daytona project, Mopar Insiders reports the next-generation Charger will be offered with a glass roof, much like the one seen on the striking concept car. This will be optional and should add a welcome dose of luxury to the package.

So, what else can we expect? Dodge insiders claim the SRT Daytona will retain its elegant two-door silhouette. However, production models will be sold as a more practical four-door vehicle, much like its predecessor. Last year, CarBuzz learned that an electric Dodge sedan would reach the market by 2024, with a Chrysler-badged sibling following a year later.

All-electric models will be marketed as Charger Daytona models, while ICE-powered variants will be referred to as "Charger" and receive the powerful twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine. In the High Output state of tune, this mighty 'six' produces as much as 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

As for the Daytona, Dodge will offer varying levels of performance that customers can upgrade. Three battery-electric levels will be offered, and each version will be offered with upgrades (eStage 1 and eStage 2) that boost power outputs. The base and mid-spec models will reportedly be underpinned by 400-volt architecture, while the range-topping Banshee will utilize an 800-volt setup.

While it may not sound as glorious as a Hellcat V8, Dodge has been working on a unique Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust.

Unlike a fake exhaust noise, which pipes a synthetic sound into the cabin, Dodge's solution amplifies the electric motors' natural sound and channels it through a dedicated chamber. It's an interesting concept, but we wonder if it will win over V8-loving traditionalists.

Regarding styling, the Daytona variant will distinguish itself with an R-Wing. This is a nod to past models and directs airflow into the front intake, improving downforce. Supporting the abovementioned claim that it will arrive in 2024, the insiders claim the Charger and Charger Daytona will come in Q3 2024. Interestingly, the Challenger variant is expected to touch down before its four-door cousin.

Of course, this is all speculation until Dodge confirms these details. However, it all sounds possible, and we look forward to seeing the Charger and Charger Daytona in production form when they arrive in the coming months.
