Spy Video Reveals Tesla Cybertruck Has A Disappointingly Small Frunk

A short video from TikTok suggests the Cybertruck could get limited front storage space.

A Tesla Cybertruck spy photo released weeks ago where it was seen impersonating an ICE-powered Ford F-150 suggested the pickup EV might not feature a front trunk, or "frunk." But thanks to a new TikTok video, we can see the all-electric truck could get one after all, albeit relatively small compared to rivals.

The video was captured within Tesla's Texas factory, where the first Cybertruck was formally made. It is quite hard to get a hold of the proportions considering the video was short and, at times, blurry. Three units had their hoods opened, so we have different angles to ponder.

The first truck to appear in the video was taken from the side, which reveals a very small frunk. Looking at the other examples, the frunks looked a bit more sizable. We can blame that on the angle, though, as Tesla seemed to maximize the vehicle's width for the front storage space.

In contrast, the frunk of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup doesn't take advantage of its width and extends toward the cabin instead. The Rivian R1T has a different approach, with a hexagonal frunk that can only be accessed from the top. With the nose raising along with the hood, one advantage of a full-width frunk in the Cybertruck is easier loading and unloading.

But note that these are just speculations based on what we saw in a short TikTok video. Looks can be deceiving, so we should wait for the official specifications before jumping to conclusions. Tesla plans to commence mass production next year following years of production delays.

For now, it seems rivals like the F-150 Lightning have the bragging rights for their sizable front storage. The Cybertruck will try to one-up Ford with its unconventional trunk, described as a vault, which can transform into a ramp by lowering the rear air suspension.
