Tesla Cybertruck Pokes Fun At Toyota With Tundra Wrap

Not satisfied with trolling Ford, Tesla is making fun of Toyota too.

Images of a Tesla Cybertruck disguised as a Toyota Tundra are doing the rounds on the internet, with the bizarrely concealed electric vehicle grabbing the attention of Tesla fans everywhere.

First discovered by a Cybertruck Owners Club member, the vehicle was spotted traveling on American roads with a wrap that makes it look like a Tundra - from a distance, at least. This could be Tesla's humorous way of disguising production-ready Cybertrucks from the public eye, all while highlighting the unique styling that is unlike any other truck on sale today.

The proportions of the Cybertruck are at odds with the Tundra wrap. Elon Musk reportedly challenged designers to think out of the box when designing the pickup. "I don't care if no one buys it. We're not doing a traditional boring truck. We can always do that later. I want to build something that's cool," said the CEO.

This isn't the first time Tesla has done something like this. In late July, a Cybertruck was spotted wearing a Ford F-150 disguise. Again, this is the automaker's way of concealing production-ready models and highlighting the edgy design by covering it with a more conventionally styled rival.

But with Ford, it's more than just a disguise. Tesla and Ford have a good-natured rivalry, with both companies having poked fun at each other. Not long ago, Ford's CEO Jim Farley said the Cybertruck was for "Silicon Valley people," suggesting it's not a proper workhorse designed for tough jobs. Instead, it's a status symbol - something to be seen in.

Even though it was first revealed in 2019, several competitors - including Ford's own F-150 Lightning - have reached the market before the Cybertruck. However, with production finally underway, Tesla will almost certainly compensate for the delay.

While it will undoubtedly be a popular product - there are scores of fans and pre-order holders - it won't be perfect. We've already spotted the disappointingly small frunk, which appears smaller than its rivals. However, we can only comment on that once Tesla releases official figures.

The automaker has faced multiple challenges due to its complex shape, particularly in pre-production. However, a leaked email shows that Elon Musk has strongly emphasized superb build quality and is reportedly demanding sub-10-micron accuracy with the Cybertruck. "If LEGO and soda cans, which are very low cost, can do this, so can we. Precision predicates perfectionism," he wrote.

We wonder if we will spot any more humorously disguised Cybertrucks in the near future. If the automaker wants to poke fun at all its rivals, we can expect Rivian, Chevy Silverado, and GMC Hummer EV wraps.
