Tesla Cybertruck's Dark Digital Camo Needs To Be A Factory Option

Another Cybertruck has been spotted, wearing something different from its bare-metal finish.

A Tesla Cybertruck prototype has been spotted undergoing testing with a camo wrap that needs to make it to production as an option.

The buzz around the Cybertruck has continued to grow ever since the automaker boasted the first model that rolled off Giga Texas. Several prototypes have been spotted while testing on public highways, with one caught by eagle-eyed road users on Interstate 280 near Palo Alto in California.

Posted by a member of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, this latest example sports an epic digi camo design. The hilarity of it all is that the Cybertruck needs no disguising as it has all the design intricacy of a block of cheese.

In addition to the images, the prototype was caught on the move in the tweet below.

While we know the wrap was supposed to conceal updated design elements of the production electric truck, we can't help but admire how it goes well with the angular pickup - maybe an idea future owners can adopt when they take delivery of their trucks.

The spotted test vehicle had its retractable tonneau cover open, while the wheels appeared to be wearing chunky tires that still provided significant clearance within the geometric wheel wells. It also had its windows tinted, probably trying to hide some updates in the cabin. The glass canopy and full-size side mirrors were also apparent in the images - something that future owners can expect from their EV truck.

Speaking of future owners, Tesla has promised deliveries of the Cybertruck will begin this year. However, Musk confirmed in the recent Q2 2023 Earnings Call that mass production would only commence next year. Factory tooling is still on track, however.

Tesla has its hands full with the Cybertruck, with Musk confirming that demand was off the hook, "so far off the hook, you can't even see the hook."

A recent report stipulated that Tesla has received around 1.9 million orders for the Cybertruck, which could mean that those who have just ordered one could face up to five years of waiting. Whether the truck is worth the wait depends on its future owner, who should expect a lot of in-cabin technology.

"I do want to emphasize that the Cybertruck has a lot of new technology in it, like a lot. It doesn't look like any other vehicle because it is not like any other vehicle," said Musk in the Q2 2023 Earnings Call.
