What can we expect from this facelifted flagship?
Audi just released a teaser for a facelifted version of its Q8 SUV, which is set to debut on September 5, 2023. "The upgrade further extends the Audi Q8's top position in the ranks of the Q family. A characterful appearance, headlights and taillights with new design and functionality, and even more individualization options ensure the sporty, elegant SUV coupe remains highly recognizable," Audi said in its teaser release. The image was sketched by Lukas Rittwage, who started at Audi as a lighting designer in 2015.
It's unclear whether this updated Audi Q8 will arrive in the US as a 2024 model or if product timing will push it to be a 2025 model. Given that some 2024 models are already on sale, our guess is the latter. Judging from our spy shots of the car, the facelift will be relatively minor.
The teaser image doesn't give much away aside from a slightly revised taillight design that retains its same overall shape. It may just be a styling choice for the teaser, but Audi could be previewing a new bronze color for the Q8. There is no angle of the front end, but the spy shots appear to hint that the Q8 will not get the split headlight treatment that will debut on the Q6 e-tron. The headlights will be altered, but mildly.
We don't expect to see any changes under the hood. Audi will likely keep the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which currently produces 335 horsepower. The Audi SQ8 will include a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, likely producing the same 500-hp as it does currently.
As for the high-performance Audi RS Q8, we know it is coming soon based on prototype sightings at the Nurburgring. The current RS Q8 produces 591 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque from its uprated twin-turbo V8 engine, but it could get even more powerful in this facelift. The Cayenne Turbo GT gained 19 hp for a total of 650 hp, so Audi has some room to increase the output without stepping on Porsche's toes. Perhaps electrification will feature, but we suspect that will be reserved for an all-new model.
There will likely be a few improvements to the interior, including the infotainment technology. Stay tuned for the official reveal, which takes place in just a few weeks. When it arrives, it will take on the recently updated BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
