The Wolf Of Wall Street Lamborghini Countach Heads To Auction

RM Sotheby's predicts the Countach could fetch up to $2 million.

Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street featured some stunning exotic cars such as the Ferrari 512 TR and Jaguar E-Type. But perhaps the most iconic four-wheeled star in that movie was the Lamborghini Countach, which Leonardo DiCaprio crashed as part of the story.

If you're a fan of this Lambo, here's your chance to own one of the Countachs used in the film (not the wrecked one) through RM Sotheby's Luxury Week in New York City on December 8.

The auctioned Countach has chassis number KLA12722. What makes the car more special is that it wears the 25th Anniversary edition badge and only 12 US-spec examples were made finished in Bianco Polo paint with a Bianco interior that you see here.

While RM Sotheby's did not disclose the powertrain specs, the Countach 25th Anniversary edition came with a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated engine from the factory. Regarded as the nameplate's fastest variant, the mill sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

For those who have not seen the Grammy-nominated film, former Wall Street trader Jordan Belfort, played by DiCaprio, drove the Countach while under heavy influence of intoxication. Like Belfort, the car was wrecked after crashing into cars, a golf cart, and road posts.

Film sets usually create car replicas when shooting reckless stunts. However, Scorsese wanted to incorporate authenticity into the scene and decided to wreck the real thing.

Although, RM Sotheby's assured the chassis KLA12722 did not sustain damage during filming. The particular scenes where the auctioned Countach was shot were not shared. What we know is prospective buyers are looking at an estimated price of $1,500,000 to $2,000,000.

"The 'Wolf' Countach, along with the other cars that will be on offer, perfectly embodies what we set out to accomplish when we decided to host a sale during Sotheby's Luxury Week. Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lamborghini, and New York - all make for an incredible pedigree," said Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions.

"The sale will feature other similar cars - unique, highly collectible, with a degree of provenance, low mileage, or one-off specification. Our team has a great track record of curating boutique sales such as this, and we look forward to showcasing this during Luxury Week."
