UPDATE: Toyota Denies New Camry Leak In Promo Video

Toyota USA recently posted an informative video to YouTube that could contain a surprising peek at the next-generation Camry. The video covers the pros and cons of buying versus leasing, a pretty standard topic, but there may be a tidbit of information hidden mid-way through. Toyota filmed the video in stop motion, mostly using toy versions of outgoing models. At 49 seconds in, we see a fictional storybook called "The Amazing Toyota" with a car that we've never seen before on the cover.

The car is only a drawing, but it sure looks like a Toyota Camry with the front end from the new Prius. We initially thought this could be one of the Crown versions that we do not get in the US, specifically the Crown Sport crossover (fourth image below), but while this has a similar front end, it also has a distinct sedan shape the Crown Sport lacks.

UPDATE: Toyota has informed CarBuzz that the image in the video was, "created by one of Toyota Financial Services' vendors that mistakenly used an artist's conceptual rendering of a Camry that was a meant as a placeholder during the production process. The vendor has no access to Toyota planned vehicle design images and the image is not a preview of a future Camry. Toyota Financial Services is removing the image from the video."

The current Camry came out back in 2017, and the 2024 model year is mostly a carryover, so the timing is right for a new model. There have even been some rumors of a Gazoo Racing version, which would look great rocking the Prius-style front end. Toyota has already previewed what a GR Prius Concept would look like, so a GR Camry is not outside the realm of possibility.

Under the hood, we expect Toyota to ditch the 3.5-liter V6 engine in favor of a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This change has already been made across the Toyota lineup, including vehicles like the Highlander. The Camry Hybrid should return as well, and perhaps Toyota will add a plug-in hybrid Camry Prime to the mix.

If this simple buy-versus-lease video is actually the first teaser for the next-generation Camry, we should start to see some more explicit teasers from Toyota in the coming weeks. The Japanese automaker loves to post numerous teasers before a big reveal, leaving no doubt of what model it is about to unveil.

There is plenty of time between now and the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, which runs from November 17 to 26, for Toyota to reveal the next-generation Camry. Toyota showed off the styling new Prius at the 2022 LA Auto Show, so perhaps the company is poised to make another big splash this year.
