2023 Audi TT Roadster Review: Open-Top Fun

by Michael Butler

The TT has become one of the most famous Audi sports cars of all time, not because of any significant motorsport career, but simply because it looks good and drives well. These qualities extend to the current Audi TT Roadster which now forms part of the third-generation TT. With 228 horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the TT Roadster lacks the firepower of its BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster rivals. However, it remains good to drive with its spirited handling, and it has the quality, high-tech interior expected of a car with four rings on the hood. If you can live with the lack of rear seats and some missing driver-assistance features, the Audi TT Roadster is still a top choice in this segment.

2023 Audi TT Roadster Handling and Driving Impressions

The TT is a purebred sports car and was designed from the bottom up to deliver an enjoyable driving experience. It can be argued that the Roadster, with its drop-top, won't be as sharp as the coupe, but that's missing the point. The 2023 Audi TT Roadster isn't a track weapon by any stretch of the imagination, and losing the top only adds to this fun little car's enjoyment. The TT has a well-sorted chassis that is always eager to turn in and change direction on demand. Steering is precise but doesn't offer tons of feedback, and as you'd imagine, the ride is relatively stiff. If you're after a true drop-top sports car in this class, the Porsche Boxster is the only way to go, but the Audi TT Roadster strikes a good balance between fun and comfort and is the perfect toy for a fun summer. As for the four-cylinder engine, 228 hp is just enough to have a good time without getting you into trouble. If it's a thrilling roadster you want, both the Z4 and Boxster have much quicker alternatives higher up in their respective ranges, but you'll need to pay for the privilege. Based on our review of the Audi TT Roadster, it's a hard car to fault, though.

Verdict: Is the 2023 Audi TT Roadster A Good car?

The new Audi TT Roadster is offered with some serious spice in coupe form, but the fact that it is only offered with the base 228-horsepower engine in roadster form shows that Audi knows its market. The TT has been around for a while now, and in that time, enthusiasts have taken a keen liking to the sporty and capable coupe, while the 2023 TT Roadster has remained the glamorous option, made for having fun in the sun, and not exactly attacking apexes at the local track day. The TT, based on the capable MQB platform, remains a fun car to drive, and thanks to Audi's excellent built quality, exudes refinement and class. We do wish that this drop-top offered more in the way of standard driver assistance features, and the Audi TT Roadster's competitors are quicker, but in the end, it does exactly what it says on the label.
