2024 Aston Martin Valhalla: Crashing The Hybrid Hypercar Party

The best things in life are often worth waiting for, and Aston Martin is betting that the Valhalla is one of them. Like the Mercedes-AMG One that finally went into production this year, the Aston Martin Valhalla is another hybrid supercar that has been a long time coming. Positioned below the Valkyrie flagship, the Valhalla is powered by a flat-plane crank V8 and twin E-motors to make a combined 937 horsepower. That's less power than the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, yet the Valhalla has a much higher price tag.

With extreme performance and exotic looks, the Valhalla is intended to be a more usable everyday car than the Valkyrie. A collaboration with Red Bull Racing, the Aston Martin Valhalla is a powerful reminder that the British marque is capable of more than just stunning but ultimately softer grand tourers.

When Is The Aston Martin Valhalla Coming Out?

The Aston Martin Valhalla's release date was originally scheduled for 2021 but it is now only expected to go into production sometime in the second half of 2023. It may be coming out as a 2024 model, but this is one of the Valhalla details that is yet to be confirmed. Only 999 examples are to be built.

What’s The Price Of The 2024 Valhalla?

The 2023 Aston Martin Valhalla's price tag is expected to be out of reach of most enthusiasts at a cost of about $800,000 MSRP in the USA. That would make it far more expensive than rivals like the more powerful Ferrari SF90 Stradale, which starts at about $511,000. At more than double the price, there is the Mercedes-AMG One hybrid. The older Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari can also be considered similar in light of their hybrid powertrains.

New Aston Martin Valhalla Exterior And Colors

With its mid-engined layout and an intense focus on creating as much downforce as possible, the Aston Martin Valhalla's exterior design is unashamedly that of a true exotic. It has a low, broad stance and an especially wide interpretation of the brand's traditional slatted grille.

Full LED Matrix headlights are said to deliver superb illumination, although the front-end view is perhaps not the car's prettiest. Forward-hinged dihedral doors are one of the design's highlights, and there are cut-outs in the roof to make ingress and egress easier. On the roof itself is a scoop that feeds the V8 with air, in addition to more side and rear intakes. All in all, the manufacturer claims that the new Aston Martin Valhalla coupe's active aerodynamics produces 1,323 pounds of downforce.

The rear-end is sinister with its integrated spoiler, enormous diffuser, and individual taillight blocks. The exhaust system's tailpipes are top-mounted and should emit a distinctive noise from the flat-plane crank V8. Large wheels (20 inches in front and 21s at the back) have been seen wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The Aston Martin Valhalla's colors are unknown, but it's finished here in a striking green and black combination.

Aston Martin Valhalla Dimensions

The Aston Martin Valhalla's dimensions remain unknown, so we'll have to wait until the car is released to learn its exact length, height, and width. We do know that Aston has done everything possible to keep the weight as low as possible, though.

A targeted dry weight of under 1,550 kg (3,417 lbs) has been quoted, giving the 2023 Valhalla a superior power-to-weight ratio. The carbon tub, predominantly carbon fiber body, and lightweight exhaust system all help balance the weight of the hybrid powertrain.

Aston Martin Valhalla Engine And Performance

In 2021, the Aston Martin Valhalla's engine specs were shared and they make for impressive reading. Most of the power comes from a rear-mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. With the ability to rev all the way to 7,200 rpm, the engine is said to be the most advanced and responsive V8 ever fitted to an Aston Martin. It produces 740 hp on its own and a thrilling noise thanks to an adjustable exhaust system with active flaps.

Paired with the V8 is a 400V battery hybrid system with a pair of E-Motors, with one electric motor on each axle. This electric system contributes a further 201 hp, taking the combined output of the Valhalla up to 937 hp. An all-wheel-drive car, 100% of the battery power can be sent to the rear axle for maximum performance. The torque peak is 738 lb-ft.

Using a quick-shifting eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the 0-62 mph time is only 2.5 seconds. Aston is aiming for a Nurburgring lap time of just six-and-a-half minutes. Despite its performance potential, another facet of the Valhalla's personality is its ability to be driven in EV-only mode up to speeds of 80 mph. With the V8 in action, the top speed rises to 217 mph. Instead of a conventional reverse gear, the Valhalla has an e-reverse function which uses the electric motors. This setup also saves weight.

To make it as good to drive as it is fast, the Valhalla will come with Multimatic Variable Spring rate and Adaptive Spool Valve Damper units, a Track mode that reduces ride height considerably, and an electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

Gas Mileage, Charging, And Battery Life

EPA ratings and charging information for the Valhalla plug-in hybrid are still to be determined, but the manufacturer claims an all-electric driving range of just over nine miles. High-performance V8s are hardly known for their efficiency, so we wouldn't expect much better than 15 mpg combined for the V8 on its own.

Aston Martin Valhalla Interior And Cargo

Although we've seen the outside, the only Aston Martin Valhalla interior pictures are from the older 2019 concept. However, what we saw then remains similar on the latest version of the car. Seating just the driver and one passenger, the Aston Martin Valhalla's seats will have bases fixed to the chassis structure, so you have to use the adjustable pedals and steering wheel to find your favored driving position. Raised footwells provide a seating position similar to that of a Formula 1 car.

Aston Martin describes a pared-back cockpit layout with straightforward ergonomics and a new HMI (Human Machine Interface) system inside. There will be a central touchscreen display with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual-zone climate control will keep you cool when pushing the car's high limits.

Unlike some other hypercars, the Valhalla won't be devoid of the latest driver-assistance technologies. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a rearview camera with optional surround-view, blind-spot monitoring, and active cruise control will all be available.

We don't expect the Aston Martin Valhalla's cargo space to be especially accommodating, but nobody buying this car will expect a crossover-sized trunk.
