2024 Jeep Wagoneer S

Jeep's latest mission is to have a fully electrified portfolio within the next three years and to ensure that 50% of Jeep brand vehicles on sale in the USA by 2030 will be BEVs. As a step towards this, the automaker has given us a glimpse of the all-new electric Jeep Wagoneer S after teasing new releases to its EV lineup.

Built on the STLA Large platform, the Jeep EV, codenamed Wagoneer S, is not just striking in appearance but promises to be a worthy rival to the likes of the Cadillac Lyriq. Jeep's design team notes that the 'S' represents speed, striking presence, and sexy looks, and from what we know so far, it's right on the money. It will be built in North America alongside the trail-rated Jeep Recon. This is not an electric version of the Wagoneer full-size SUVs, though, but rather an all-new midsize offering with about the same interior space as a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The release date for the Jeep Wagoneer S hasn't been confirmed, but production is slated to kick off in 2024. Reservations will open in early 2023.

Pricing is crucial information to have, but Jeep remains tight-lipped about the price of the 2024 Wagoneer S. While competitors start at over $60k, MSRP figures for the Jeep will likely be even higher as a true luxury offering. Buyers may qualify for federal tax credits, however, which help to mitigate the cost.

Striking and sexy are the two words the design team chose for the 2024 Wagoneer S exterior, and we're inclined to agree that it's a looker. Up front, the seven-element grille has been reinvented entirely - it's more understated and elegant than on bulkier gas-fed models. Clear lettering identifies it, and just beneath this, sleek headlamps with an LED light strip running the full width of the hood give it a futuristic look combined with the illuminated grille slots.

At the rear, the coupe-like roofline lends itself to a sleek profile; the roof itself plunges down at the rear, beneath a hovering wing design that is supported by the D-pillars. Echoing the full-width light strip on the nose, the rear taillight cluster is equally streamlined. Jeep states that the Wagoneer S is the culmination of design evolution, and clear emphasis has been put on aerodynamics and a premium look.

When it comes to colors for the Jeep Wagoneer S, we don't have access to an official palette just yet, but seen in silver, blue and darker shades of purple in the press material, it looks equally eye-catching and elegant.

There are no official dimensions for the mid-size Jeep Wagoneer S yet, but we know it's a bit smaller than the current Grand Cherokee. The bigger SUV measures in at 193.5 inches in length, just under 71 inches in height, and has a width of 77.5 inches. The 4xe variant of the Grand Cherokee tips the scales at over 5,300 pounds, and the Wagoneer S is likely to have a slightly higher curb weight.

The 'S' in the name also represents speed, and while we have yet to see if the name will stick, it's a suitable way to denote the rapid SUV. We're still anticipating official specs for the powertrain, but we know it will have up to 600 horsepower and be able to dispatch the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds - performance matching that of the older, supercharged V8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It's quite likely this will be from a dual-motor setup to imbue the Wagoneer S with such output figures, but the inclusion of less-potent models in the range is also possible. This twin-motor powertrain will also give the Wagoneer S - or whatever name the electric Wagoneer SUV has in production form - electric all-wheel drive capabilities.

Capability is a staple of Jeep vehicles, and while the new Jeep Wagoneer S SUV is not Rubicon Trail Rated, it will be able to manage light off-roading.

With an estimated 400 miles of range on a full charge, the Wagoneer S EV will be able to fulfill its purpose of comfortable cruising and effortless long-distance travel. We expect charging to be efficient, with around 200 miles of charge being added per 10 minutes, should you have the right charging setup. This is based on the STLA Large architecture that underpins the Wagoneer S.

It might be a little smaller than the Grand Cherokee, but the Jeep Wagoneer S's interior will have similar legroom. Since the battery is flat, space has been maximized to make it a comfortable place to spend time. We do know that the Jeep Wagoneer S seats five across two rows, and while we have yet to catch a glimpse of the cabin aside from through its glass roof, you're likely to find leather and soft-touch materials in abundance, as is expected of a premium cabin. The latest Uconnect system will be at the heart of the infotainment setup, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Storage and cargo space on the Jeep Wagoneer S will most probably be sufficient to accommodate a mid-size family, and if the slightly larger Grand Cherokee is anything to go by, that will include handy interior spaces for smaller items; between 35 and 40 cubic feet of trunk space behind the second row is expected, with a frunk also likely to add extra practicality.
