WATCH: Craziest Car Collections In Singapore

Car Culture / 4 Comments

You need some VERY deep pockets to own a collection like this here.

Singapore is known for its high cost of living, and even residents who want to drive a car are slapped with strict and impossibly expensive vehicle ownership laws. More specifically, Singaporeans must pay for a certificate of entitlement, which starts at $99,499 as of August 2023 (up from $80,000 in January), to register a car for ten years. Imagine dishing that amount to buy a small, economical car.

However, that won't stop some enthusiasts from satisfying their car guy hearts. Renowned LA-based car photographer Larry Chen continues to uncover the "crazy rich Asian" car culture in the country, with some owning huge collections that cost hefty ownership fees.

The first stop was the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution collection owned by Darren Ong. One of the Evos had a clean Marlboro-inspired livery that dates back to the heyday of WRC champion Tommi Makinen. Ong also owns cars like the fifth-gen Honda Civic, Toyota AE86, and Nissan GT-R R35, reflecting his love for JDM cars, considering one costs $95,000 to register.

Chen went on to meet up with Steven, a self-made man who owns some of the most expensive cars in the world. As a "very important" member of the Pagani Club, he had the privilege to drive his Huayra throughout European circuits along with company founder Horacio Pagani himself.

Inside the beautiful home lies the Pagani Huayra. Steven said the cost of living with the supercar is 14 million Singaporean dollars, or around $10 million. Further proving his crazy rich Asian status were the Koenigsegg Agera and the rare GT-R50 by Italdesign custom painted with Iron Man colors.

Chen got deep into the Singapore car culture when a team of a mysterious man - said to have the craziest car collection in the country - contacted him. But for some reason, this man just disappeared from the scene.

While many are said to live paycheck to paycheck to afford their dream cars, this mysterious man owned a seriously expensive collection. One of the wildest cars that pulled up was a Pagani Zonda Cinque, which, as the name suggests, only five were produced.
