2024 Cadillac XT4

We've seen the first-gen Cadillac XT4 on our roads for six years now, but the latest iteration may cause you to take a second glance. It has been updated with some modern styling borrowed from Lyriq. Sadly, it retains its grunty 235-horsepower turbo-four engine that prevents the compact crossover from being even mildly athletic. But, it's not just new looks that will draw attention to the XT4. It also enjoys some enhanced specifications, both standard and optional. This might help the US-born car stand up against the likes of the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40, but we're not sure it will be enough. At the very least, it seems like it finally warrants the premium price tag it has been asking for.

The price of the Cadillac XT4 has always been a bit on the high side, but now it seems to finally be delivering enough to warrant it, starting with the Luxury at $37,895. The Premium Luxury and Sport are almost identically priced, at $41,495 and $41,995, respectively. Adding all-wheel drive to the mix will cost you $2,500. These are the MSRP prices for the Cadillac XT4 and do not include the $1,195 destination charge.

The 2023 XT4 is still the capable city runabout it has always been. It is not a particularly sporty crossover, even in its so-called Sport configuration. Body roll is well-managed, but the steering lacks feel, and the chassis can't really handle being tossed around the corners. Despite this, the Caddy tries to be athletic, and it comes at the cost of comfort. You can shore up some of these weaknesses by opting for the Sport trim with 18-inch wheels and adaptive dampers. However, there is nothing you can do about the lackluster engine. It doesn't help that it gets noisy when you try to force it to do more than it's capable of. The transmission isn't overly good at handling what little power there is. In review, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 shows a lot of promise from the outside but doesn't really deliver on it once you get behind the wheel.

The 2024 Cadillac XT4 has seen a stylish update that also improved its base tech offering, though the key issues that held us back from giving it a more generous rating before remain unchanged. These include an underpowered engine and a slightly stiff suspension. Thus, it can't deliver a particularly enjoyable driving experience, and it isn't as comfortable as rivals in the same price range. On the plus side, it boasts a spacious cabin that is home to some of the best tech you'll find in the segment, including a massive 33-inch diagonal infotainment display. The new interior trimmings help the cabin look a bit nicer, but scratch beneath the surface, and the overall quality has not changed much. We've been waiting for this refresh for quite some time now, and we were excited to see what Cadillac would do with its compact crossover. Sadly, all the big hopes we had were dashed, and nothing truly significant was changed. In short, the XT4 looks shinier, but it's still fool's gold, and there are better vehicles on sale in this price range in the USA.

It's only a few grand up from the base model to one of the more premium ones, and considering how much extra comes with this increase, we'd definitely go for the Premium Luxury or Sport. The latter has the added advantage of an active sport suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels that don't ruin the ride quality. There isn't really much in the way of opinions or packages that we think are essential, and the cost of this build comes to around $46,000.
