BMW i4 Gran Coupe Looks Better And Goes Further With New KW Suspension Kit

The new coilover kit is designed to work in tandem with the electric BMW's rear air suspension.

After releasing a new suspension kit to make the BMW M4 ready for the Nurburgring, KW Suspensions has launched a new DDC plug-and-play coilover kit for the all-electric BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupe (G26). It is designed to be compatible with the M50 Gran Coupe's adaptive rear axle air suspension, taking the electric Bimmer's handling to the next level.

To achieve this, KW had to revise its line of DDC dampers for the i4 M50. KW Brand Manager Florian Johann said, "The entire design of the shocks, including its electronic magnetic proportional valve, piston rod configuration, rebound travel, and shortened KW stainless steel damper housings, has been adapted for the factory air suspension. So, the factory air suspension is removed from the factory damper and attached to the adaptive KW DDC rear damper. The suspension manufacturer provides the necessary tools for this."

As seen on the demo car, the new coilover kit lowers the i4 M50 significantly. The company says that it's lowered by 20-40 mm at the front axle and 15-35 mm at the rear. Note that the car in the photos uses the BBS CI-R alloy wheels, sized at 20x9 inches for the front and 20x9.5 inches for the rear. These are then wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires in 245/35R20 (front) and 255/35R20 (rear).

Besides the enhanced handling and the sportier stance provided by the DDC coilover kit, KW says it can enhance range. This is because a lowered car has its wheels tucked into the wheel arches resulting in a better drag coefficient.

The brand admits that it has yet to test if its coilovers improve the efficiency of the i4 M50. Still, Johann said, "Specialists in electronic mobility achieved a range increase of up to seven percent with our coilover suspension for the Tesla Model 3."

The KW DDC plug & play coilover suspension kit is priced at €3,398.64 (~$3,580 at current exchange rates).
