What to Consider When Buying a BrightDrop EV

With the automotive industry headed firmly in the direction of electrification, GM and BrightDrop have committed to a future where electric delivery vehicles become the norm. Other brands are starting to take EV vans more seriously, but how has BrightDrop’s headstart and pinpoint focus affected its offering?

Pros

  • All-electric power is ample
  • Lower running costs due to charging costs vs. gas bills
  • Smaller carbon footprint
  • Customizable cargo bay via upfitters
  • Various supporting products available to maximize productivity
  • Unique looks and cool “new” factor
  • Over 600 cubes of cargo space
  • Class-leading safety features are standard

Cons

  • Small-scale purchases have a long waiting list as larger corporations have ordered large numbers of the van
  • It may be new, but parts of the cabin aren’t - for example, the steering wheel comes from a GM truck, the Chevrolet Silverado, while the instrument cluster is the same as that found in the Chevy Bolt.
  • Untested for reliability and safety

FAQs

Is BrightDrop a GM brand?

As a subsidiary of American automaker General Motors, BrightDrop is a new brand that focuses on electric delivery vehicles and systems. BrightDrop vehicles are assembled at GM’s CAMI plant in Ontario, Canada.

Is there more than just one EV from BrightDrop?

Although the Zevo 600 is the first product from the manufacturer, another EV is in the pipeline. A smaller version of the electric van, called the Zevo 400, is in the cards and will share the basic design, benefits, and capabilities of the bigger 600, just on a smaller scale.

What other products does BrightDrop make?

With the aim of introducing a whole ecosystem of delivery products, there are also eCarts featuring propulsion assistance, temperature control, and automatic braking, proudly bearing the BrightDrop logo. Fleet management tools and cloud-based software from BrightDrop also link up with your electric delivery van fleet to streamline the delivery process as a whole.

What is the price of a new BrightDrop EV?

So far, the Zevo 6600 has been selling for around $85,000, which sounds like a lot. However, the high capabilities and excellent fuel economy of the vehicle help recoup this investment. The smaller Zevo 400 is not yet available, but we expect the price to be somewhere between $80k and $85k.
