Bespoke Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Pays Tribute To Carrera Panamericana

Special Editions / Comments

Porsche made two examples, and one will be heading to auction next year.

Porsche, in partnership with long-time partner Tag Heuer, has revealed two 718 Cayman GT4 RS-based tributes to the Carrera Panamericana. The first car - with the number 154 - joined the brand's celebration at Rennsport Reunion 7 at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

The inspiration for the project is the Porsche 550 Coupe that entered the Carrera Panamericana under two customer teams 70 years ago. Coincidentally, the project celebrates the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Jack Heuer gave to racing drivers 60 years ago.

This double anniversary is celebrated with this special "Sonderwunsch" project, joining others in the customization program's portfolio including the "Appearance of Crosses 2022-2"-themed Taycan Turbo S and Pixar's Cars' Sally Carrera-inspired 911.

Exterior-wise, the project cars are painted in Le Mans Silver Metallic. The Porsche 550 also ran at the Le Mans in 1953, taking the first two places in the 1.5-liter class. The colors of the window angles and air intakes are the same as the ones in the Panamericana cars. And, of course, the Tag Heuer logo can be spotted on the hood and the rear wing.

Moving into the interior, the cabin features a two-tone red and black finish. This is complemented by the Tag Heuer logo and Mexican flag colors (green, white, and red) referencing the Carrera Panamericana. In the car with racing number 154, Porsche installed a Tag Heuer stopwatch module in the center console.

Both bespoke 718 Cayman GT4 RS units will be present at the first and second stages of this year's Carrera Panamericana. Although, the second car - with number 152 - has a different fate as it will be auctioned in early 2024 for a good cause.

"We are delighted to be presenting one of our pair of Sonderwunsch one-off cars as a highlight of this year's Rennsport Reunion. Both cars incorporate design characteristics of the legendary Porsche 550 Coupe. At the same time, the project demonstrates once again what the Sonderwunsch program of Porsche AG is capable of," explains Alexander Fabig, Vice President, Individualization and Classic at Porsche AG.

"This is truly an exciting moment for Tag Heuer. This new collaboration with Porsche represents the peak of our shared dedication to precision and performance. It's a fusion of our racing heritage and a celebration of the spirit of motorsport," said George Ciz, CMO, Tag Heuer.

The Rennsport Reunion 7 was also joined by other unique Porsches, such as the custom 944 off-roader with a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels die-cast and life-size versions of Cars' Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen.
