Take Your Tesla Model Y Offroad With New Beadlock Wheels

Going off-road with an electric vehicle (EV) poses challenges, such as the lack of charging stations near trails. But Unplugged Performance may encourage more Tesla Model Y owners to explore more by introducing the 18-inch UP-03 Beadlock Off-Road Spec Forged Wheels.

As the name suggests, the wheel is bead-locked, which helps hold the wheel and tire more securely. This is perfect for cars like EVs, as high torque applications can cause slippage between the wheel and tire. Model Y owners could use this wheel setup for $1,123.75 (sold individually).

For the price, the UP-03 wheel improves off-road capability by maximizing traction. The bead lock capability reduces tire pressure to as low as 5 psi to increase the contact patch. The wheel is created in aerospace-grade forged aluminum for maximum strength, making it lighter than steel alternatives.

When not driving off-road, the wheel can be switched to street-use mode. The tire bead can be mounted inside the wheel's outer rim to make it fully compliant for legal highway use. Another benefit of this wheel is it still allows the use of Tesla factory lug nuts, center caps, and tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) sensors.

Owners can also try drag racing their Tesla Model Y as it is another area where bead lock wheels are widely used. After all, the instant torque feature of EVs makes them fun for straight-line runs, even beating American muscle cars in a quarter-mile race.

Unplugged Performance offers the 18-inch UP-03 Beadlock Off-Road Spec Forged Wheels in two colors: Satin Black and Satin Titanium.

The Tesla aftermarket wheel specialist also teased a new set for the Tesla Cybertruck. The Texas-based EV maker is slated to commence mass production of the futuristic pickup truck later this year.
